Weekly Winners 2022 - 31

This week we have found another three winners where I tried making a mix between commander and constructed formats. We had to skip a few cards on this week's interests to do that, but this week feels like a pretty good one. We have some interesting cards that are not always widely known to everyone. Have a great weekend!

Like every week, just in time for FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight!

Come discuss this week's price movements with us on Reddit.

#1 Marionette Master $2.47 (+83%)

Marionette Master

Our first winner of this week is Marionette Master, a rare card from Kaladesh. It costs and you will get a 1/3 creature with Fabricate 3 and Whenever an artifact you control is put into a graveyard from the battlefield, target opponent loses life equal to Marionette Master's power.. So you can either let this be a 4/6 creature when it enters the battlefield, or have three 1/1 colorless Servo artifact creatures.

Now to be honest, I am not 100% sure why this card is spiking now all of the sudden. I feel that interactions with this card have already been well-known for a little while, but maybe people just started realising this, or it was mentioned by a content creator that I could not track down or simply missed.

However, Marionette Master works pretty well in Treasure token strategies. Each Treasure you sacrifice can add up to 4 loss of life of target opponent (assuming you put counters on the Master). This makes popular includes in decks around Prosper, Tome-Bound, Tivit, Seller of Secrets (Extended Art), or Mahadi, Emporium Master. Cards like King Macar, the Gold-Cursed create Gold artifact tokens, which basically are Treasures as well.

King Macar, the Gold-Cursed
Prosper, Tome-Bound
Marionette Master
Tivit, Seller of Secrets (Extended Art)
Mahadi, Emporium Master

#2 Crescendo of War $8.68 (+51%)

Crescendo of War

This white enchantment makes all attacking creatures and your blocking creatures increasingly stronger as it stays on the battlefield. For you get to play this card, and each upkeep (not just your own) you put a strife counter on it. Whenever a creature (not just your own) attacks, it gets +1/+0 for each strife counter on Crescendo of War. Blocking creatures you control also get +1/+0 for each strife counter on Crescendo of War.

Since it pumps the power of all creatures it can really force the game to a quick ending. Since your creatures are still able to block and kill your opponent's attacking creatures, you are less of a target to attack. If you are able to combine this with other cards that make it less attractive to attack you, like Ghostly Prison, then your opponents may eliminate each other pretty quickly. We see this card appear in decks around Kwende, Pride of Femeref, Basandra, Battle Seraph, or Pramikon, Sky Rampart.

It seems like this card is spiking since it is being features in a YouTube short by Jumbo Commander. This definitely could have brought some more attention to this card, and thus people buying their copies.

Ghostly Prison
Crescendo of War
Basandra, Battle Seraph
Kwende, Pride of Femeref
Pramikon, Sky Rampart

#3 Emrakul, the Promised End $86.24 (+29%)

Emrakul, the Promised End

I am going to skip a few cards on the Interests this week to avoid doing another "Commander Winners" articles, and talk about Emrakul, the Promised End. This Eldrazi was printed as Mythic in Eldritch Moon. It costs , which is a lot! But to be fair, you will get a lot in return, like a 13/13 Eldrazi creature. When you cast Emrakul you gain control of target opponent during that player's next turn. After that turn, that player takes an extra turn. Furthermore it has flying, trample, and protection from instants. To ease the pain a bit of the 13 mana needed to cast Emrakul, it will be discounted by for each card type among cards in your graveyard.

So to start, it is played in Pioneer decks in Gruul Ramp decks, but that does not seem to be the main reason for the card to move up. It seems to be mainly moving because of Modern Omnath Elemental decks. But it is also played in Amulet Titan and Eldrazi Tron. When you play Emrakul, the Promised End you get to control your opponent's next turn. However, that opponent will get an extra turn after that. But hopefully you are able to destroy your opponent's resources so much during their turn by emptying their hand and making bad attacks, that they will not be able to recover.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Moraug, Fury of Akoum $5.00 - Slowly moving up!
