Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Insight Engine $13.00 (+924%)

This blue artifact from Commander: Edge of Eternities has spiked hard over the past week. Insight Engine costs three mana and lets you pay two and tap it to put a charge counter on it, then draw a card for each charge counter. While it's not quite The One Ring level of broken, the scaling does make it a decent source of cards once it gets going. Paying five mana for one card on the first activation is rough, but after four activations you've drawn ten cards for eleven mana total.

The card works especially well in proliferate and counter strategies, which makes it a good fit alongside Kilo, Apogee Mind. Recently printed [card]132662{/card] has also become a popular home for the card thanks to artifact cheating synergies, and Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus players are also running it.

But the main spike didn't come from people just realizing the card is good. It seems like the spike is coming from content creators shining light it. With Wizards hinting at banning Rhystic Study in Commander, people are already searching for drop-in replacements. With this hype people seem eager to buy up copies that content creators are mentioning.

#2 Surtr, Fiery Jotun $8.49 (+175%)

This red God from Zektar Shrine Expedition has been trending upward recently, and it's thanks to synergies with the PlayStation Secret Lair cards. Surtr costs five mana for a 5/5 with trample that deals three damage to any target whenever you cast a historic spell. Little refresher: historic spells include legendaries, artifacts, and Sagas, which means even simple mana rocks like Sol Ring trigger this ability.

While Surtr isn't the most popular mono-red commander on its own, it's a solid inclusion in decks that care about legendary creatures or artifact-heavy strategies.

The spike comes from the God of War: Norse drop that went on sale last Monday. Kratos, Stoic Father heavily incentivizes playing a high density of Gods, and Surtr fits perfectly while rewarding you for every legendary God you follow up with. Since there aren't that many God cards in Magic at the moment, every strong option becomes crucial for the deck's success. Surtr's trampling body also makes it a prime target for the +1/+1 counters you get from Kratos. The aggressive Kratos, God of War from the God of War: Greek drop also can dish out some serious damage.

#3 The Lost and the Damned $9.65 (+56%)

This Izzet enchantment from Universes Beyond: Warhammer 40,000 has been spiking recently. The Lost and the Damned rewards you for playing lands or casting spells from anywhere other than your hand by creating a 3/3 red Spawn token. The reason for the spike is Norman Osborn, which is turning out to be maybe the most popular commander from the Marvel's Spider-Man set.

Green Goblin is a Grixis legend built around discarding cards and casting them from your graveyard via mayhem, which triggers The Lost and the Damned every single time. Since Green Goblin decks play a ton of spells to keep looting through the deck, the steady stream of 3/3 tokens provides valuable board presence. The card even enables some surprising combo wins when you loop Attunement with Surly Badgersaur out, casting a ton of spells from your graveyard and flooding the board with tokens.

The Lost and the Damned only has one printing, from the 2022 Warhammer precons, so supply is limited. Norman Osborn has staying power in both casual and cEDH, and cards that cast from exile or graveyard keep getting printed. Even if Norman Osborn falls out of favor, commanders like Gwen Stacy and the upcoming Iroh, Grand Lotus from Avatar also synergize well with this effect. As a Universes Beyond card, reprints are tricky without another Warhammer collaboration, which means this price could keep climbing.
