Weekly Winners 2021 - 41

After a few weeks of spikes with cards going up over 500%, this weeks appears to be a lot slower and prices are settling a bit. But don't you worry, because at the end of this month spoiler season will begin again for Innistrad: Crimson Vow, so I'm sure we'll see some more movement then. I sort of figured we'd see a bit more movement because of the World Championship last week, but it stayed awfully quiet.

Like every week, just in time for FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight!

Come discuss this week's price movements with us on Reddit.

#1 Curse of Disturbance $3.71 (+286%)

Curse of Disturbance

For our first winner we will look at a few cards together, but the largest jump is Curse of Disturbance. Several weeks back we also discussed curses. With the printing of Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor this series of enchantments have definitely found a proper commander to build around and with the addition of new curses in Innistrad: Midnight Hunt there are extra cards available. To be honest I don't really know how powerful a commander deck around curses really is, but what I can imagine is that the chaos it may bring can be very entertaining with the right playgroup.

But Curse of Disturbance may be an extra winner in curse-land, because it generates Zombies. Zombies you say?! Now where have I heard that being mentioned a lot recently... Oh wait! In the Weekly Winners 39 and 40, so basically the last two weeks. Zombies are still a hot item, but since Curse of Disturbance is both a curse and creates zombies it may benefit from both demographics.

But this week we saw another curse go up to $8.43 (+30%): Cruel Reality

Cruel Reality

This curse is one of the more hefty curses that can end the game pretty quickly. It even sees play in Legacy curses decks and have seen play in the past in some Legacy Nic-Fit builds.

But in the same line we have another card spiking that is less obvious. That card is Copy Enchantment that went up to $17.56 with 25%.

Copy Enchantment

It isn't a curse, but I think it is pretty obvious why people would include it in their Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor deck. Being able to copy a curse already on the battlefield is pretty strong, and even when there aren't any curses on the battlefield, in a game of commander I am pretty sure you are going to find a different enchantment that may be worth copying. But we have another enchantment that does about the same that also goes up: Estrid's Invocation! We clearly see an upward trend here that started around September but is now picking up a lot steam.

#2 Bloodline Keeper $25.99 (+51%)

Bloodline Keeper

Just like Zombies and Werewolves, we are getting into Vampire territory. Keep in mind that the effects we now see on zombies and werewolves may very well be happening with vampires as well as soon as Innistrad: Crimson Vow spoilers start. And actually it may already have begun. When we look at Bloodline Keeper the trend is already beginning. Another example of this is Captivating Vampire that has already started price increase.

So you may not be too late to pick the pieces up you want to play with, but I do expect them to go up quickly as the next Innistrad set approaches. This sentiment is shared as well by DJ from Brainstorm Brewery. You can see the discussion in their latest video.

There obviously is a risk for reprints, but when we look at the previous Innistrad set, we don't really see any notable Zombie reprints there either. Not saying that this trend will continue in Crimson Vow, but it does seem like WotC is mainly focussed on getting more unique cards out there in these two sets.

#3 Mystic Gate $28 (+33%)

Mystic Gate

The filterland is quickly gaining value as it sees play in several Modern decks like Jeskai Control and Reanimator. I went to the Filter Lands Handy List to see what the other filter lands were doing, but they seem pretty stable for now. Playable lands, and especially ones that provide you with , are usually the most expensive when it comes to these kind of cycles.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.
