Weekly Winners 2021 - 20

With Modern Horizons 2 spoilers kicking off, we can see the set already has some influence on the market, meaning this week we not only see a card moving because of Commander, but also because of Modern. But our number one winner is spiking because of a Strixhaven: School of Mages card!

Like every week, just in time for (digital) FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the (digital) town tonight!

#1 Savor the Moment $23.99 (+75%)

Savor the Moment

Cards that take extra turns always seem to have the potential to be broken at some point, or are at the very least popular for casual play. In this case we see Savor the Moment being played in Modern Taking Turns decks that are doing fairly well on MTGO.

The printing of Velomachus Lorehold has made the deck viable in Modern. The idea is to either control the board long enough to play Velomachus Lorehold from hand, or to use Indomitable Creativity on a Treasure token and find Velomachus that way. Since Velomachus has haste, you can immediately attack with it, reveal the top seven cards of your library and cast an instant or sorcery spell from them without paying its mana cost if the cost is equal or lower than Velomachus' power. Chances are you will find a Savor the Moment or Time Warp within these seven cards and you may cast it, netting you an extra turn. Rinse and repeat!

#2 Nature's Revolt $4.49 (+99.6%)

Nature's Revolt

A somewhat older card that was only printed in Tempest and 7th Edition. It seems like this card is being picked up for commander play since Yedora, Grave Gardener was released.

If you combine these two together with a free sacrifice outlet like Blasting Station, Altar Of Dementia, Ashnod's Altar, or Phyrexian Altar, you can sacrifice your lands to it because Nature's Revolt makes them are all creatures. When you do, Yedora lets you return them to the battlefield as a forest. Since forests are also now lands, you can sacrifice them again and again.

Blasting Station CardKingdom $7.49 TCGPlayer $6.80
Altar Of Dementia CardKingdom $13.99 TCGPlayer $12.49
Nature's Revolt CardKingdom $2.49 TCGPlayer $4.78

Yedora, Grave Gardener CardKingdom $2.99 TCGPlayer $4.95

#3 Retract $10.00 (+67%)

Retract

This card is interesting, since there does not seem to be any direct reason for it to go up, but merely speculation. Since Urza's Saga was spoiled it seems more cards revolving around artifacts are moving. This may indicate people expect there to be cheap artifacts in Modern Horizons 2. When these are printed it could mean the Cheerios deck in Modern may pick up some steam again.

That being said, Retract already sees play in Commander, mostly in Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain decks. It's a strong effect for only , and has only one printing.

Urza's Saga CardKingdom $1.99 TCGPlayer $34.46
Retract CardKingdom $6.99 TCGPlayer $10.00
Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain CardKingdom $2.29 TCGPlayer $2.94

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.
