Weekly Winners 2021 - 03

The Kaldheim has been fully spoiled, and the brewing can commence! The past week of spoilers has had some effect on card prices, but we also see the movement of 93/94 cards continue which we talked about last week.

Like every week, just in time for (digital) FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the (digital) town tonight!

#1 Oppression $47.97 (+335%)

Oppression

It will not surprise you that cards have been going up because of Kaldheim spoilers, and Oppression is no exception. Tergrid, God of Fright // Tergrid's Lantern was spoiled, and it is hard to miss the powerful interaction. Whenever an opponent sacrifices or discards a card Tergrid enables you to take whatever your opponents sacrificed or discarded.

Now how can we make sure our opponents discard sufficient cards? Look at that! Oppression will make sure your opponents will have to discard a card whenever they play a spell. And in most decks the goal is to play spells, so it will make sure some cards hit the graveyard. I kind of expected to see more cards go up because of Tergrid, and noticed Desolation on the Interests as well. Forcing your opponents to sacrifice lands is always fun and makes sure you are the most liked person at the table, but when you also take the lands for your own they sacrificed you know they will love you forever.

Don't think Oppression was some unnoticed card, because it already saw play in EDH Tinybones, Trinket Thief and Cao Cao, Lord of Wei where the discard was also very welcome.

Oppression TCGPlayer $47.97
Desolation TCGPlayer $3.99
Cao Cao, Lord of Wei TCGPlayer $49.99
Tinybones, Trinket Thief TCGPlayer $32.96
Tergrid, God of Fright // Tergrid's Lantern TCGPlayer $6.46

#2 Whim of Volrath $24.40 (+310%)

Whim of Volrath

Another spike because of Kaldheim and this time it is because of Orvar, the All-Form. Now the interaction may not be directly obvious, but being able to have a recurable (buyback) cheap spell to target your permanents and make copies of them at instant speed is quite nice. for a copy of your Blightsteel Colossus? Sure!

Orvar, the All-Form TCGPlayer $17.23
Whim of Volrath TCGPlayer $24.40

#3 Shivan Dragon $31.49 (+268%)

Shivan Dragon

In last week's article Peter already discussed that old cards are going up, and we mainly see the "classics" gaining value. Cards popular in the format 93/94 seem to be going up quickly, and this does not seem limited to the Reserved List cards. We also saw Birds of Paradise (+172%, $45), Wrath of God (+19%, $16), Sol Ring (+28%, $18), and Armageddon (+19%, $7) going up. These are just the cards that are not on the reserved list. I will show some graphs from these reserved list cards below. Poor Ben.
