Weekly Winners 2022 - 46

The The Brothers' War set has been released on Arena and will come in paper soon as well. In Commander we can see some effects of this upcoming set, and more notably, the commander part of this release. But this week we also managed to find a spike that looks like it has to do with some anticipation of a new deck in Modern. And Legacy is also showing up with a new card that sees some play in Azorius and Jeskai decks there. Pretty varied week, and those are usually my favorite!

Like every week, just in time for FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight! Come discuss this week's price movements with us on Discord and Reddit.

#1 Shape Anew $4.14 (+841%)

Shape Anew

This card went up tremendously the past week! Shape Anew is a Sorcery for and says that the controller of target artifact sacrifices it, then reveals cards from the top of their library until they reveal an artifact card. That player puts that card onto the battlefield, then shuffles all other cards revealed this way into their library. Only a few weeks ago we discussed Indomitable Creativity that has a similar effect, just like cards like Transmogrify or Polymorph. These cards are usually used to cheat out something you are not supposed to play yet with your available mana. Shape Anew is no different, but only meant for artifacts.

The Brothers' War is already released on Arena, but still needs a bit of time to appear in paper. However, we do know exactly which cards are in there and that there is a strong artifact theme. This also was no real surprise when the set was announced, and we knew it largely revolved around Urza and Mishra. With renewed love and attention for artifacts, people can use Shape Anew or Trash for Treasure to try to sneak out a card like Portal to Phyrexia.

So far the card likely went up because of speculators anticipating the card to be good. There has been some chatter that Shape Anew could become a Modern deck now with the printing of Portal to Phyrexia. Time will tell, but people have not waited around to get their hands on some copies. And what do you know?! Also Portal to Phyrexia ended up high on the Interests lists. This card went up last night for the same reason.

#2 Triumph of Saint Katherine $19.94 (+208%)

Triumph of Saint Katherine

We do see quite some cards from Universes Beyond: Warhammer 40,000 going up a lot, as this commander product proves to have a lot of powerful cards of which some are harder to reprint since they are bound to the Warhammer universe. This week we see Triumph of Saint Katherine going up with over 200%. For you get a 5/5 lifelinker. Now is a lot of mana, but fortunately you can Miracle it in for only . That's not bad! When this creature dies you have to exile it and you have to shuffle it along with the top six cards or your library and then put it back. Setting it up for a return!

Triumph of Saint Katherine can be found in the Forces of the Imperium deck and sees some play in decks around cards from this deck as well, like Inquisitor Greyfax and Marneus Calgar. Commander however is not the reason for the spike of this card. It seems that this card is being experimented with in Legacy in Azorius Miracles Control and Jeskai Stoneblade decks. Being able to get out a 5/5 Lifelinker for only two mana at the end of your opponent's turn sounds pretty good!

#3 Mirrodin Besieged $4.78 (+80%)

Mirrodin Besieged

This rare from Modern Horizons is going up this week. The enchantment costs , and when it enters the battlefield you have to choose between either Mirran or Phyrexian. If you have chosen Mirran, thenwhenever you cast an artifact spell, create a 1/1 colorless Myr artifact creature token. If you have chosen Phyrexian then at the beginning of your end step, draw a card, then discard a card. Then if there are fifteen or more artifact cards in your graveyard, target opponent loses the game.

This card is not new to CommanderIt has seen play in decks around Keskit, the Flesh Sculptor and Silas Renn, Seeker Adept for example, but it sees play in several types of decks that revolve around artifacts. This week however it seems to be moving because of Commander: The Brothers' War. It seems to be a good upgrade in both commander decks and is finding its way into new decks revolving around Urza, Chief Artificer and Ashnod the Uncaring.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.
