Weekly Winners 2020 - 47

Another week where Commander Legends seems to be the driving factor behind price increases, showing once again that EDH is a strong driver for the market.

Like every week, just in time for (digital) FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the (digital) town tonight!

#1 Jeska's Will $3.99 (+181%)

Jeska's Will

Commander Legends has been released and we have seen some boosterbox cracks on YouTube and this also means the cards can actually been traded and sold. This week we saw Jeska's Will go up with 181% which makes it $3.99. The most notable about this card is that it is an upgrade to Act on Impulse which sees play in Legacy Ruby Storm and used to see play Legacy Doomsday decks. These decks will certainly want to upgrade their copies.

The ritual mode will probably be too inconsistent to be good, but we should not ignore that it becomes a ramping possibility. It could be an extra path to a victory, and especially in eternal formats like Legacy, that could really be a game changer for these decks. We may very well see slightly more Ruby Storm or even Through the Breach decks in Legacy.

But I can also see Jeska's Will be an include in a lot of commander decks that play red. Card that give you the possibility to either ramp or give card advantage is nothing to sneeze at. Both of them are really important in commander games.

#2 Eladamri's Vineyard $5.99 (+64%)

Eladamri's Vineyard

Lets discuss this card together with Overabundance ($8.00, +45%), since they both seem to go up because of Yurlok of Scorch Thrash. As the boomers among us will remember, we used to have something in Magic called mana burn. It is now an obsolete concept and existed until the Comprehensive Rules update to Magic 2010. Mana burn meant that if you had any mana in your mana pool at the end of a phase that player will lose 1 life for each mana lost this way. Does this sound familiar?

I still remember one of the regular casual players I used to play with had Spectral Searchlight in his deck. It would either ramp him, or he would give you a mana in your end step so you would lose 1 life. Fun times! Yurlok of Scorch Thrash basically returns mana burn to the table when it is on the battlefield. When we look at Eladamri's Vineyard and Overabundance we see it benefits everyone but can also lead to quite some damage. Especially when paired with cards that force players to tap their lands for mana like Citadel of Pain.

#3 Oboro, Palace in the Clouds $53.07 (+8.31%)

Oboro, Palace in the Clouds

We discussed Oboro, Palace in the Clouds a few weeks back in the Weekly Winners as well. That time we attributed its spike to Hedron Crab and Tatyova, Benthic Druid. But now in Commander Legends we have another commander that works nicely with Oboro: Aesi, Tyrant of Gyre Strait.

Land strategies are always popular in commander and Oboro together with Aesi makes sure you can always make a land drop and thus also always draw an extra card.

Yearly Winners 2022: Top Winners and Losers (Part 1)

2022 has been a busy year for Magic and especially the collectors. The market was flooded by Wizards of the Coast with new product. There have been, among others, four main sets, each having their own commander product, several Universes Beyond sets, Dominaria Remastered, Unfinity, and 70 Secret Lairs. Plenty of new cards hit the market. According to some calculations, almost 15% of all card variations were printed in 2022, and 25% of all commanders in existence were printed this year. Plenty of stuff to look back on!
