Weekly Winners 2020 - 35
Another week filled with Reserved list spikes and price hikes and it was quite a challenge to filter through al those bizarre spikes to find the more interesting winners to present to you this week. Just like last week, we will not share the cards that had the biggest percentual change, but the most interesting or impactful winners this week.
Like every week, just in time for (digital) FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the (digital) town tonight!
See something interesting in the world of card prices? Be sure to pitch me a tweet: @MTGPeter
#1 Mox Diamond $699.99 (+14.28%) - ALL TIME HIGH
Its current price hike is very probably way to high for what the card is actually worth. As you might notice on the card page, its market price is not following suit and its uptrend actually broke this week and its market price has even fallen a bit.
#2 Revised edition Dual Lands
Of all the reserved list cards the Dual Lands are the most widely played pieces and absolute cornerstones of the Legacy and Vintage formats. Demand for these cards is high and the cards see actual play in many decks across the Eternal formats. For those unfamiliar, there are decks that have no or just a few basic lands, their slots taken by Duals.
Over the past weeks, many Reserved List cards have been going up. Most of them are unreasonable and probably unsustainable price hikes. There are a few exceptions, and the Dual Lands are one.
But these high prices have a very big downside for the health of the eternal formats. Mana bases are extremely important in both Vintage and Legacy. And only very few decks can omit the Duals Lands and still be competitive. These high powered formats need high powered mana bases. And as the prices rise, these lands become ever more unobtainable.
#3 Final Fortune $10.38 (+73.29%) - ALL TIME HIGH
I'm happy to report that there is more to this financial week than just Reserved List spikes.
As frequent readers of this article probably know by now, there are certain types of cards in Magic that get a value bonus. Cards with alternative casting costs for instance, or Planeswalkers. Another example fits
