Weekly Winners 2018 - 43

Three interesting, organic demand driven winners this week. Buyouts seem to be on a low in the past weeks, which means that our daily (and weekly) interest lists a good reflection of metagame changes once again. #1 Cragganwick Cremator $6.50 (+1,282.98%)

 

Cragganwick Cremator went from a $0.50 to a $6.50 card this week; spiking with more than 1200%. When cards spike this hard, there is usually some ground breaking result from a deck in a format. And that's the case with Cragganwick Cremator as well. The card is a main piece in a new modern brew, that netted a top-8 finish in last week's Modern Challenge. This is the deck in question:

The deck revolves around landing mana dorks and cheap (but efficient) threats in the early game. After that, landing a Cragganwick Cremator while discarding a Ghalta, Primal Hunger or Impervious Greatwurm to swing the game your way.

Interestingly, the deck finished in the top 8 on October 14th. That's not last sunday, but the sunday before that. There was quite a delay between the result of the deck and it spiking. I was not able to find conclusive leads to why that happened. Although I did stumble on some posts on socials asking should Cragganwick Cremator have spiked?

#2 Arclight Phoenix $13.99 (+99%)

 

It popped up in the top 5 winners last week as well, but it didn't make it to the Weekly Winners because there were more interesting winners to report. This week however, Arclight Phoenix managed to double in price and stay on that level for the past 5 days.

That's not a common occurence. Usually a card either spikes and falls a bit in price before reaching a 'plateau'. We see a lot of cards that slowly but surely creep up in price as its playrate increases in a format. But cards like Arclight Phoenix are pretty rare: stacking two weeks of double digit price increases.

Arclight Phoenix is gaining in popularity in both Standard and Modern. Most first builds with Arclight Phoenix featured Runaway Steam-Kin, but more decks have popped up since. And what seemed to be a underwhelming mythic at first, now seems to be a card that might be a gamechanger for Modern. For your convenience I've listed several builds below.

#3 Jadelight Ranger $15.79 (+22%)

 

This week's #3 is not a spike. Rather, it's a good example of a card that shows a different, but just as interesting trend: a fast and steady growth in price. Jadelight Ranger sees play in 6 standard decks and has proven itself to be a solid 4-off in Sultai en Golgari builds.
