Last weekend, Pro Tour Shadows over Innistrad was held. Traditionally, the financial markets respond not only during the Pro Tour, but also during the days after. So, once again,  just in time for FNM, I present you the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight.

See something interesting, or do you have a question? Send me a tweet: @MTGPeter

#1 Dark Petition +447.1% ($7.55)

Dark Petition

Dark Petition already saw some play in Legacy ANT decks, but spiked after a buyout during the Pro Tour. Almost never have we seen a spike that came so early as in the case of Dark Petition. For the first time, QuietSpeculation.com had a group of observers present on the tournament floor, to check out the decks that were being played. After round one they reported that "a significant group of players are on a DARK PETITION deck. It's G/B with Hissing Quagmire, tons of removal and Kalitas. The Petition lets them find and cast big spells", followed by the advice to buy the card.

Speculators that were tapped into the reports followed that advice, causing a spike after the tournament went into the second (and third) rounds. Usually these spikes happen after a certain deck recieved airtime during the coverage, or was mentioned in a tweet by a pro-player or finance specialist. And decks with Dark Petition got airtime as well, stoking the fire some more.

To get a good grasp of the way a deck with Dark Petition works, check out this tournament report from the Mothership. It features decklists and a play-to-play report of the match between Jon Finkel and Luis Scott-Vargas.

#2 Seasons Past +320.3% ($8.91)

Seasons Past

Different card, same story. Seasons Past was mentioned in that e-mail as well, and is played in the same type of deck. Interestingly enough, it is now more expensive than Dark Petition, even though the card is from the newest set (that is still being opened a lot). But, Seasons Past is now gradually going down in price, where Dark Petition is settling into its new pricetag, and even gaining some value again.

#3 Muddle the Mixture +164.0% ($6.89)

Muddle the Mixture

A common from a popular set with a $6.89 price tag is extremely rare. Serum Visions is $0.09 more expensive, but Muddle the Mixture comes very close.

The reason for this is simple: with Muddle the Mixture you can find both Sword of the Meek and Thopter Foundry, which means that for only 1UU, you have much easier access to your combo and makes the Thopter/Sword decks a lot more consistent. And don't forget the appeal the transmute cards have for EDH, being able to find that one card in that big library is a good thing.

Just like last week, the Commander: Innistrad: Midnight Hunt spoilers are the main factor of influence on the markets this week. There are enough cards spoiled for the brewing to commence and we expect a lot more movement in the coming weeks!

Catalyst Stone Daybreak Ranger Oboro, Palace in the Clouds

Weekly Winners 2021 - 13

This week we saw a lot of interesting movement. Most of it caused by Strixhaven spoilers, but the old frame fetchlands spiked as well.

Deserted Temple Mox Tantalite Windswept Heath

For the first time since the COVID pandemic hit, our interest page looks like normal for a change! Many (huge) spikes from different sets and eras. I choose to see this as an omen of better times ahead!

Chain of Smog Illumination Magma Sliver

Somewhat of an odd week. Not really any spikes that has one really obvious or notable reason and of course still a lot of older cards moving up.

Selective Memory Pearl Medallion Zombie Master

Weekly Winners 2021 - 08

The most interesting week in a long, long time! Maybe I'm a but biased due to my love for Legacy, but this week that format is the biggest driving factor behind the three weekly winners.

An interesting week, again driven by old card speculation and EDH. But we also have a special edition of Cheap Pickups, with a new way to look at cards that are (still) cheap pickups, but might go up later.

A strange and eventful week in the world of finance. Where you'd expect tons of cards to spike due to new brews, we mainly see a new hausse of reserved list cards being bought out. And also non-reserved list cards that happen to be MTG classics.
