Weekly Winners 2021 - 18

We only have cards going up because of Commander play, and one because of the memes. With the spoilers for Modern Horizons 2 starting, and even some spoilers for the upcoming D&D summer set, I expect to see some interesting fluctuations for next week.

Like every week, just in time for (digital) FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the (digital) town tonight!

#1 Creakwood Liege $24.99 (+378%)

Creakwood Liege

This horror started moving around the beginning of May, but has now made the largest jump so far. Before that you paid around $5 for a single copy, which has now jumped to $25. Keep in mind that this is the price mid-jump and chances are it will come down in the coming weeks. If I wanted a copy of this card, I would wait a bit.

Creakwood Liege has already been popular in commander since it makes sense to have a card in your 99 that boosts the power and toughness of each creature in the deck, and also basically generating 3/3 tokens on each of your turns. It seems to be included in most Savra, Queen of the Golgari commander decks for example.

Now for the reason that Creakwood Liege went up this month, is because of reasons we have also seen in the past few weeks for others cards in this color identity. Of course I am talking about the new commanders Valentin, Dean of the Vein, Beledros Witherbloom, and also Dina, Soul Steeper to a somewhat lesser extend. It can definitely be used as an upgrade in the Witherbloom Witchcraft Commander 2021 deck. But again The Command Zone may have had a hand in this price jump. In the video below Creakwood Liege was mentioned as possible upgrade.

Creakwood Liege CardKingdom $7.99 TCGPlayer $24.99
Creakwood Liege CardKingdom $7.99 TCGPlayer $16.99
Valentin, Dean of the Vein CardKingdom $1.99 TCGPlayer $1.35
Dina, Soul Steeper CardKingdom $0.25 TCGPlayer $0.29
Beledros Witherbloom CardKingdom $19.99 TCGPlayer $20.00

#2 Retraced Image $5.99 (+207%)

Retraced Image

Another card spiking driven by commander demand. This card is not new to commander decks, since it already saw some play in Talrand, Sky Summoner and Charix, the Raging Isle decks. Now people also seem to buy the card as upgrade to the Prismari Performance Commander 2021 deck.

Retraced Image only has one printing in Torment, which to me rings a bell, since we have seen multiple cards from Torment go up in the past few weeks. The most prominent examples of these are Overmaster and Cabal Coffers.

Charix, the Raging Isle CardKingdom $0.39 TCGPlayer $0.49
Retraced Image CardKingdom $1.99 TCGPlayer $5.99
Talrand, Sky Summoner CardKingdom $0.79 TCGPlayer $0.66

#3 Knollspine Dragon $29.00 (+68%)

Knollspine Dragon

This card was already discussed in Weekly Winners 2021 - 15 and not much has changed since then. Knollspine Dragon remains to be popular amongst the commander crowd. To save you a click, I will just repeat what we said about this card a few weeks ago somewhat slimmed down and adjusted, and give you an extra Weekly Winner!

Knollspine Dragon spiked (again) because of a Strixhaven: School of Mages card. This time the culprit comes in the form of a common Dragon's Approach. The synergy is fairly obvious. If you manage to get 5 Dragon's Approach in your graveyard, you can search your library a dragon and put it into play. If you find Knollspine Dragon you can discard your hand, which may contain a few more Dragon's Approach. Now Knollspine Dragon will do a bunch of damage to your opponent and you can search up another dragon.

Dragons have always been popular, but they are on the watchlist of a lot of people, since we know there's a set coming revolving around Dungeons... and Dragons. Yesterday (or last night for the Europeans among us) Tiamat was spoiled in the upcoming D&D set. It doesn't seem like it had an effect currently on the price of Knollspine Dragon, but it might tomorrow. I also feel this card is being used as upgrade to the Prismari Performance deck.

Knollspine Dragon CardKingdom $9.99 TCGPlayer $29.00
Dragon's Approach CardKingdom $2.49 TCGPlayer $2.50

#4 Brushwagg $15.30 (+207%)

Brushwagg

Nothing to see here! Move along! Barely anyone plays with Brushwagg in whatever capacity you can think of. I try to steer away from discussing Reserved List cards that spike, but this one felt like it could use some addressing. The card was posted on Reddit in a Magic Finance subreddit, calling for people to buy copies just for the heck of it.

Don't buy it, and if you are able to sell one for this price, then good for you!

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Opposition Agent $14.99 - Trending down slowly
Opposition Agent

Kasmina, Enigma Sage $5.22 - Trending down slowly
Kasmina, Enigma Sage

This may be a weird include in this list at this point, but I saw some tweets popping up asking whether Kasmina could actually be good in Temur Super Friends in Historic. So if you plan on playing with Kasmina, perhaps it's an idea to pick up a copy.

Panharmonicon $10.28 - Stable
Panharmonicon

Panharmonicon CardKingdom $10.99 TCGPlayer $10.28
Kasmina, Enigma Sage CardKingdom $5.49 TCGPlayer $5.22
Opposition Agent CardKingdom $19.99 TCGPlayer $14.99
