Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Reaver Titan $5.62 (+71%)

There was a time not too long ago where we talked week after week about cards from Universes Beyond: Warhammer 40,000 in the Weekly Winners. And every now and then these cards still keep popping up on the Interests for multiple reasons. The power level of the set was pretty high, and there are some interesting mechanics and/or abilities on the cards.

This week, let's talk about Reaver Titan. This powerful Vehicle can be found in the Forces of the Imperium Commander deck. It has protection from mana value three or less, and whenever it attacks it deals five damage to each opponent. Though, for , it seems to be pretty expensive to cast, and then you also need to crew it to do anything. I can imagine that for you can find better spells to cast.

So I've been trying to dig a little bit into why this card decided to move up the past week, and the easiest way to start is looking at cards from the most recent previewed set: Universes Beyond: Doctor Who. But even then I find it hard to find the cards that may make this card more playable. One that does come to mind is Ashad, the Lone Cyberman, which cares about non-Legendary artifacts. By giving Reaver Titan Casualty 2, you can basically make two of these Vehicles and do a bunch of damage when you attack. But when played with Cybermen Squadron, you can give your Reaver Titan myriad. Whenever a creature with myriad attacks, its controller may create token copies of that creature for each other opponent, which are exiled at the end of combat.

When you're able to have a second copy of Reaver Titan, and let both copies attack, you get two Myriad triggers, basically threathening to deal 30 damage to each opponent (10 attack trigger damage, 20 combat damage). Keep in mind that Myriad creatures tokens enter already tapped and attacking, so the Myriad tokens you create will not trigger their "whenever it attacks" ability.

And it seems that for this very same reason, we also see Thunderhawk Gunship and Triplicate Titan (Extended Art) on our weekly Interests.

#2 Keeper of Secrets $8.46 (+107%)

And yet another card from Universes Beyond: Warhammer 40,000 pop up on this week's Interests. Keeper of Secrets, which can be found in the Ruinous Powers Commander deck, has been discussed before in our Weekly Winners in April. Back then, it was because of the printing of Edgin, Larcenous Lutenist. It seems that, just like our previous Winner, the new Universes Beyond: Doctor Who is to blame.

Doctors really like to cast stuff from any other place than your hand! First, we have The Tenth Doctor, which, on attack, will find a card from the top of your library and give it Suspend. When you cast a card with Suspend, you don't cast it from your hand, meaning it will trigger Keeper of Secrets if it's on the battlefield. Then we have The Fugitive Doctor which can give a sorcery or instant in your graveyard Flashback whenever it attacks. Casting from your graveyard? That's not your hand, have some damage! Then we have The Twelfth Doctor that also cares about casting spells from anywhere other than your hand.

There's also The Thirteenth Doctor that, just like the previous Doctor, cares about casting spells from anywhere other than your hand. Now some of you may notice that Keeper of Secrets does not fit the color identity of The Thirteenth Doctor. But don't worry! This latest set also came with cards that have "Doctor's Companion", meaning that rather than a single legendary creature card, you may designate two legendary creature cards as your commander if one is a card with Doctor's Companion and the other is the Doctor. So when we combine The Thirteenth Doctor with Ryan Sinclair, we can now play Keeper of Secrets alongside them.

Yasmin Khan

But would you look at that? Keeper of Secrets can also help you cast cards from the top of your library! But we're not done yet, because there are more cards with "Doctor's Companion" that care about casting spells from anywhere other than your hand that you can combine with any of the Doctors we mentioned above. Graham O'Brien and Yasmin Khan, for example.

#3 Jhoira's Timebug $5.48 (+718%) - FOIL

Diverting a little bit from the regular Interests here, and looking at the Foil Interests we offer as well. Jhoira's Timebug itself is only about $0.20, but the foil version shot up this past week. I assume it's hardly a surprise to anyone on what the popular interaction is here. We talked about the new cards from Universes Beyond: Doctor Who already, and lore-wise it also makes sense that a lot of cards (and especially the Doctor cards) care about time.

Rose Tyler

Several cards from the Dr. Who set give cards Suspend, meaning that these cards have time counters on them that you can manipulate using Jhoira's Timebug. Outside of the cards we already described in our previous Winner, we also have new cards like Rose Tyler, who wants to have time counters placed on herself, or The Face of Boe, who will most likely be the Commander of decks filled with Suspend cards. And since Jhoira's Timebug is a colorless creature, it can fit color-wise into any deck that wishes to play it.

There is however one interesting thing about this price spike. Jhoira's Timebug was printed originally in Time Spiral. This card costs about $0.23, but the foil version has been around $3 for a long time. The second version was printed in Time Spiral: Remastered and is the card that has spiked this week. Apparently this foil was about $0.50 before the spike, meaning it was quite below it's original print, while they both share the same art. It's not uncommon that original prints, and especially the foils, cost an extra premium, but in this case it feels odd that there was this much of a difference. But also that the newer version is now more expensive than the original one.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past seven years. Many cards were even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Vexilus Praetor $5.00 - Moving up!

Vexilus Praetor has been identified by the MTGStocks Premium Penny Stocks feature as a card that has reached its bottom and is starting a consistent uptrend.

Shizo, Death's Storehouse $6.90 - Moving down slowly

Jace, Vryn's Prodigy $6.09 - Slowly moving down
