This week seems a seamless continuation of the past weeks. It's all EDH that drives the markets. The Commander Legends spoilers are sinking in and people are busy brewing new decks.

Like every week, just in time for (digital) FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the (digital) town tonight!

See something interesting in the world of card prices? Be sure to pitch me a tweet: @MTGPeter

Official Release of PikaStocks

In our Weekly Winners 44 we teased an image of a logo with the text "Coming soon..." . Lots of people already guessed, based on the logo, what we were announcing. So before we get started on this week's Weekly Winners, we want to proudly announce the release of PikaStocks. A Pokemon TCG price tracker!

We noticed that the Pokemon TCG is gaining more traction lately and we received several messages and e-mails asking for a website that keeps track of these prices. For more information, please look at the announcement on PikaStocks itself! You can follow PikaStocks on Twitter and on Telegram.

#1 Teferi's Veil $2.99 (+346.27%)

Teferi's Veil

Since the COVID pandemic hit, we have covered many, many spikes in this article that were caused by EDH. Since big paper events and tournaments are not being held, the usual tournament results from Legacy, Modern and Standard are missing, and you can really see how much that affects the price movements of cards.

We have still seen no big market crash, or any other big changes to the magic markets. Even though many predicted that the end was nigh, when COVID reached Europe and the United States. Nothing much has happened. Except for an increase in trade for Reserved List cards and EDH.

This week is no different. Our #1 winner, Teferi's Veil has spiked due to new brews with commanders from Commander Legends.

About 40% of the new brews with Araumi of the Dead Tide feature Teferi's Veil. When you look at the example list below, you might be tempted to think that Teferi's Veil spiked because the deck is full of creatures that have powerful enter the battlefield triggers.

If you do, I'm afraid you need a short refresher on the rules concerning phasing. Cards phasing in and out of the battlefield do not trigger the enter the battlefield or leave the battlefield abilities on cards. With phasing, the cards stay in the same zone (in this case the battlefield) and are treated as if they don't exist. They are no longer targets, they can no longer be sacrificed or destroyed. Intuitively, one would say that if that is all true, a card must not be on the battlefield anymore. And that's why phasing is known to cause so much questions for judges. The card is still on the battlefield, but we treat it as if it was not there.

Back to Araumi of the Dead Tide. With its ability you create tokens, that you need to sacrifice at end of turn. Unless they are phased out of course. So you will be allowed to keep your tokens (if they survived the attack). When brewing with Araumi of the Dead Tide, it is a good option to play Teferi's Veil alongside it. Although not all brews include it.

Teferi's Veil CardKingdom $1.29 TCGPlayer $2.99
Araumi of the Dead Tide CardKingdom $0.25 TCGPlayer $0.30

#2 Battletide Alchemist $5 (+176.24%)

Battletide Alchemist

Our second winner is trending up due to new brews around Orah, Skyclave Hierophant. It's not wonder that this new commander promotes a cleric tribal strategy. Recycling your cards is pretty powerful, especially when you can outplay the removal your opponents have. With Orah, Skyclave Hierophant you can do just that.

Battletide Alchemist has no remarkable or special synergy with the new commander. It's a cleric and it has a cleric ability. With it in play you can prevent a lot of damage against you. And because you can get your clerics back from the grave. That number of clerics has potential to stay the same, or even grow.

Another fun upside is that you can prevent damage to other players as well with Battletide Alchemist. Giving you a good, political position in multiplayer games. And it might lead to opponents begging for you to prevent damage done to them.

Orah, Skyclave Hierophant CardKingdom $0.25 TCGPlayer $0.37
Battletide Alchemist CardKingdom $2.49 TCGPlayer $5.00

#3 Opposition Agent $34.86 (+51.57%)

Opposition Agent

Normally we don't cover cards before or just after release. Pre-release prices are notoriously untrustworthy, much, much worse than even election polling. Some cards are incredibly overhyped, while others skyrocket after being totally undervalued.

But in this case we make an exception. It does not happen often that a card that is already possibly "overhyped", gains even more value. But Opposition Agent does pull it off.

Most importantly, its market price and its AVG price are now almost the same. And that means that its current price is a realistic one. At first it seemed that we reached this point when the card was valued at $23, but it shot up more that $10 this week and the market price has matched.

Currently, it is listed as the #4 most valued card in the set. And it is by far the most expensive rare in Commander Legends. If you were able to snag it for that $23 or even less, it seems now that you struck a good deal.

Opposition Agent
Commander Legends CardKingdom $29.99 TCGPlayer $34.86

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

K'rrik, Son of Yawgmoth $5.69 - Record low, bottoming out

Weekly Winners 2021 - 36

Just like last week, the Commander: Innistrad: Midnight Hunt spoilers are the main factor of influence on the markets this week. There are enough cards spoiled for the brewing to commence and we expect a lot more movement in the coming weeks!

Catalyst Stone Daybreak Ranger Oboro, Palace in the Clouds

Weekly Winners 2021 - 13

Deserted Temple Mox Tantalite Windswept Heath

For the first time since the COVID pandemic hit, our interest page looks like normal for a change! Many (huge) spikes from different sets and eras. I choose to see this as an omen of better times ahead!

Chain of Smog Illumination Magma Sliver

Somewhat of an odd week. Not really any spikes that has one really obvious or notable reason and of course still a lot of older cards moving up.

Selective Memory Pearl Medallion Zombie Master

Weekly Winners 2021 - 08

The most interesting week in a long, long time! Maybe I'm a but biased due to my love for Legacy, but this week that format is the biggest driving factor behind the three weekly winners.

Ethereal Forager Stifle Allosaurus Shepherd

An interesting week, again driven by old card speculation and EDH. But we also have a special edition of Cheap Pickups, with a new way to look at cards that are (still) cheap pickups, but might go up later.

Shivan Dragon Sapphire Medallion Elvish Champion

Weekly Winners 2021 - 05

A strange and eventful week in the world of finance. Where you'd expect tons of cards to spike due to new brews, we mainly see a new hausse of reserved list cards being bought out. And also non-reserved list cards that happen to be MTG classics.
