Banned and Restricted Update, August 24th 2020

The B&R Announcement is here and as expected: Field of the Dead is banned in Historic.

Historic

These changes will be effective from August 24th 2020.

Field of the Dead has been a powerful force in Historic for much of the format's life. While its overall win rate is rarely at the top, its matchups are extremely polarized. In particular, its high win rate against slower decks has made the format as a whole lean more toward aggressive strategies. This effect scales with the ubiquity of Field of the Dead decks, and recent sets have given the deck several powerful additions, including Cultivate, Explore, and, most recently, Hour of Promise. As a result of this we have seen both the popularity and win rate of Field of the Dead decks steadily climb, and it is currently one of the most played Best-of-One decks and, by far, the most popular Best-of-Three deck.

Having watched the progress of this deck closely, we feel that this trend is unlikely to change. We also feel that Field of the Dead is unlikely to be a healthy part of the format anytime soon, so suspension is the wrong approach. In order to bring a greater diversity to the Historic meta, Field of the Dead is banned.

For the full explanation, refer to the official announcement by WotC.

Based on these changes, what cards do you think we'll see on the top of the Interests?

Yearly Winners 2022: Top Winners and Losers (Part 1)

2022 has been a busy year for Magic and especially the collectors. The market was flooded by Wizards of the Coast with new product. There have been, among others, four main sets, each having their own commander product, several Universes Beyond sets, Dominaria Remastered, Unfinity, and 70 Secret Lairs. Plenty of new cards hit the market. According to some calculations, almost 15% of all card variations were printed in 2022, and 25% of all commanders in existence were printed this year. Plenty of stuff to look back on!

Weekly Winners 2022 - 01

First and foremost I would like to wish each and every one of you a happy 2022. Hope you managed to have a great NYE and were able to spend it with your loved ones. The first week of 2022 was pretty timid Magic finance wise. It kind of makes sense that people have plenty of stuff to do and recover from the holidays to really be bothered with buying cardboard. But I managed to scrape some cards together for you to see this week!
