Weekly Winners 2022 - 38

Universes Beyond: Warhammer 40,000 has been fully spoiled, but this week is seems awfully quiet around it price-wise. However, spoiler season has started for Unfinity and to be honest, I have some opinions on the choices made by Wizards around this set making certain cards eternal legal. But when I look at the Interests this week, it also seems quiet around this set. But instead we have some prices going up because of Commander and Standard!

As I am still on holiday, I have to pick my moments when I have time to write an article. Sometimes my schedule simply doesn't allow working on it, or sometimes I simply am not sure my internet will be good enough. In this instance the latter is going on, meaning I had to create most of this article a day earlier than I am used to. So I hope not too much happens between typing this article and publishing it on Friday (for you, today). So please be kind when you notice some numbers may be a bit off. This article comes from a campground next to the Canyonlands National Park. We spent the past two days in Arches and it is truly amazing, especially the stuff you see during some hikes there. Today we will be driving towards Fruita.

Like every week, but unfortunately not in time for FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight!

Come discuss this week's price movements with us on Reddit.

#1 Weathered Sentinels $5.44 (+147%)

Weathered Sentinels

This rare from Commander: Streets of New Capenna is found in the Riveteers Rampage commander deck. For you get a 2/5 defender with vigilance, reach, and trample. Now why would a creature with defender also need vigilance and trample? Well if we read on we see that it can attack players who attacked you during their last turn as though it didn't have defender. And when it does attack, it gets +3/+3 and gains indestructible until end of turn.

So when I read this creature I am kind of surprised it was selling for only a dollar for a few months. Since its colorless it can be played in any kind of deck color-identity wise. It's not a big surprise it quickly got adopted in Arcades, the Strategist decks since Arcades cares about creatures with defender entering the battlefield to draw a card, and lets creatures with defender assign combat damage through their toughness. According to EDHRec we also see this card show up in decks around Dhalsim, Pliable Pacifist and Rasaad yn Bashir.

It feels like this card has been wildly overlooked for a long time and people now realise how good it actually is. What also probably helps its new price is because the card was mentioned in several content creator's platforms.

Dhalsim, Pliable Pacifist

#2 Wedding Announcement $9.99 (+124%)

Wedding Announcement

Pretty sure you have never heard about this card. It's not like it was freaking everywhere in Standard. And that it's a popular Pioneer card. Funnily enough it seems like Wedding Announcement is mostly seen in Pioneer White Weeny sideboards. But when it is in the sideboards, it most of the time is a 3 or 4-off. But in Standard it is a really popular card in Orzhov and Esper midrange decks.

Wedding Announcement has quite a lot of text. It says at the beginning of your end step, put an invitation counter on Wedding Announcement. If you attacked with two or more creatures this turn, draw a card. Otherwise, create a 1/1 white Human creature token. Then if Wedding Announcement has three or more invitation counters on it, transform it. The other side, Wedding Festivity, is a lot less text and is an anthem effect: Creatures you control get +1/+1. For only you can play this enchantment that either makes sure you get some (more) bodies on the battlefield, or can get your some card advantage. But eventually you can buff your board.

#3 Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful $11.75 (+35%)

Yoshimaru, Ever Faithful

Yoshimaru is a mythic from Commander: Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty that deeply cares about other Legendary creatures. Whenever another legendary permanent enters the battlefield under your control, you get to put a +1/+1 counter on him. For he starts out as a 1/1, but can quickly grow in the right deck, especially since you can partner it with another legendary creature as commander.

It seems to be a popular card to include in decks around Jodah, the Unifier or Ratadrabik of Urborg. It also is a good upgrade to the Legends' Legacy commander deck or as an include in a new build around Dihada, Binder of Wills.

But The Command Zone also mentioned this card as a card you may want to play around Jedit Ojanen, Mercenary. We all know what a mention on that channel can do to the price of a Magic card.

We see more cards that care about Legendary creatures or permanents go up this week. One of them, for example, is Kethis, the Hidden Hand. But we also see Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain and Sisay, Weatherlight Captain going up.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.
