Weekly Winners 2020 - 24

With Core 2021 being spoiled as we speak, we can see this having an effect on the prices of others cards. It seems the new set has some interesting cards for both competitive and casual appeal. Just in time for (digital) FNM, I'll tell you which card will be the talk of the Discord tonight!

#1 Boggart Harbinger $8.00 (+1,951%)

Boggart Harbinger

Spoiler season for Core 2021 is in full swing, and has led to some movement, of which Boggart Harbinger is a prime example. A new card is spoiled, enabling a new combo, and everyone jumps on the already existing combo pieces. In this case the new card is Conspicuous Snoop.

When you manage to get that card into play on turn 2, then card Boggart Harbinger on turn 3 you can put Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker on top. That way you can make infinite Conspicuous Snoops by using Kiki's ability on itself. The last piece we need for this combo is Mogg Fanatic, which we can put on top by targeting Boggart Harbinger this time with the ability, search for Mogg Fanatic and put it on top. Now we can sacrifice all our infinite Snoops and ping our opponent(s) to their inevitable demise.

Boggart Harbinger is the card that went up the most. Kiki-Jiki was already known to be easily abused to infinite combo's, but we still see it going up a bit this week. Also cards like Auntie's Hovel has gone up with 79% ($20.99).

#2 Child of Alara $26.75 (+606%)

Child of Alara

The sudden spike of Child of Alara has everything to do with EDH, since there has been a change in the rules on how a commander moves from the battlefield to the command zone when it dies. In the old situation, whenever a commander dies, you can put it in the command zone rather than the graveyard, but this was done as a replacement effect, and the commander doesn't actually hit the graveyard. This means that it doesn't trigger any "dies" effects. This has changed to the following ruling:

If a commander is in a graveyard, library or in exile and that card was put into that zone since the last time state-based actions were checked, its owner may put it into the command zone.

Commander will not trigger "dies" effects, and when we look at Child of Alara we see quite a powerful one printed right there. This is obviously the reason for the spike, since it is now a viable commander. We have seen spikes as well in Kokusho, the Evening Star and Elenda, the Dusk Rose.

You can read about the entire explanation of the rules update on Commander RC.

#3 Hungry Lynx $8.49 (+306%)

Hungry Lynx

Cats! Dogs! Kitties! Puppies! They have always been popular casual tribals, and even Wizards has noticed that if you want to get people excited about a new set, you just have to print several of these cards with cute arts. But this also leads to other popular Cats/Dogs to spike when new ones are printed and the hype ensues.

In Core 2021 several cards have been spoiled to make these tribals more playable, especially in EDH. Cards like Pack Leader and of course Rin and Seri, Inseparable.

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Weekly Winners 2023 - 38

A week where most movement comes from Commander, and one potentially because of Pioneer and Standard.

Weekly Winners 2023 - 37

This week all cards have been moving because of Wilds of Eldraine, with some new additions for constructed eternal formats.

Weekly Winners 2023 - 36

Wilds of Eldraine released on Arena last week and will be released on paper today. And cards are moving this week because of it!

Weekly Winners 2023 - 35

I would have expected some more Wilds of Eldraine spikes by now, but it all seems pretty quiet, except for one card! Yet, the Lord of the Rings cards are still moving up!

Weekly Winners 2023 - 34

A slow week. It seems people were mainly waiting for the previews from Wilds of Eldraine and holding off on buying cards. With the entire set now revealed, I expect next week to have more spikes.

Weekly Winners 2023 - 33

This week we have a card moving up because of Modern, the Commander Masters Eldrazi precon is still stirring things up, and there's a Secret Lair Angels deck!

Weekly Winners 2023 - 32

The recent unbannings have made sure that these cards are moving up. Plus, we'll discuss a new Legacy archetype, and a card that seems to be pretty powerful in Commander.

Weekly Winners 2023 - 31

Prices are moving because of the Pro Tour and the upcoming Universes Beyond: Doctor Who set. We also managed to find a Commander card!

Weekly Winners 2023 - 30

Of course cards are moving because of Lord of the Rings, but we have some interesting cards from several constructed formats as well.
