Weekly Winners 2019 - 48

This was not the week of huge spikes. But it was a diverse week with organic winners in three different formats. Some new and fresh cards, some evergreens. A mix bag of formats and new decks make up an interesting Weekly Winners.

Like every week, just in time for FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight!

 

#1 Thoughtseize $31.99 (+5.96%)

 

 

It doesn't seem much percentage-wise, but our number one winner is a constructed classic! Thoughtseize reached an all time record high this week, as the card is seeing play in Pioneer, next to the play it already sees in Modern and Legacy. Thoughtseize is one of the best discard cards ever printed and sees an uptick in constructed play whenever the meta needs protection against powerful singles or combo's. Or, like over the past weeks, a new format is announced where Thoughtseize is making a good impression. And why would it not?

Thoughtseize sees play in five different Pioneer Archetypes. Mono-black aggro and Golgari are the biggest matches for this card, but is sees play in three other decks as well. Since Pioneer is so new, I'll add four decklists below that play the card maindeck.

#2 Vivid Marsh $2.07 (+146.43%)

 

This card and its price shows how big an influence EDH is on card prices. Vivid Marsh is printed a whopping 7 times at uncommon, and will still cost you more than $2 a piece in any printing. And that for seeing play only in EDH, a format where you need just 1 copy for your deck. In other words: concerning EDH, it has a huge supply!

But there is also a healthy amount of demand for the card. According to EDHRec.com, sees play in a whopping 9% of all decks on file on the site. Mostly played in combination with 3-color commanders, Vivid Marsh is a great color fixer when you need that one color of mana you might have missed out on. And just because it makes mana of any color next to black, it is so versatile and an instant-add for any color-intensive EDH deck that has black in its identity.

#3 Cavalier of Gales $4.84 (+31.17%)

 

Cavalier of Gales is the biggest winner for the post-Oko Standard meta this week. It is a piece in the Fire of Inventions (or Jeskai Fires) archetype. With 19.19% of the meta, that deck is the #1 deck in traditional standard. Which makes it the new top of the pack after the banning of that 3/3 elk making planeswalker that dominated the format. That also means that Teferi is back at the top of the rankings!

But Cavalier of Gales is not the only card from that deck that went up in price. Its red cousin, Cavalier of Flame had a 20% uptick as well. Hallowed Fountain is going up steadily as well, adding 14% to its value this week. For those of you wondering what this deck looks like, check out the decklist and video below.
