Weekly Winners 2019 - 44

We've seen some movement of cards this week, but just like last week, this is mostly due to Pioneer. People are still brewing, and slowly archetypes and metagames are settling. It may still take a while before this new format is solved, but we do already see people either placing their bets or finding an archetype that they love. Just in time for FNM, I present you the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight!

#1 Wild Slash $2.50 (+733%)

Wild Slash

Time to open your bulk boxes! This uncommon from Fate Reforged has spiked and the reason is, you guessed it, Pioneer. We will combine this card in this section with Ramunap Ruins, which has gone up with 283%, since they're being played in the same deck. This deck is the Mono-Red Aggro which we have a version of in basically every format nowadays. The idea of this deck is simple: count down from 20 to 0 as quickly as possible with fast threats and burn spells before the opponent can manage to establish their own game plan.

However, this deck is not the only deck that uses Wild Slash, since we also see it being played in Atarka Red, which splashes to be able to play Atarka's Command. This card is a rare from Dragons of Tarkir that went up recently from $2.50 to slightly over $6 since October 21st. This week we've seen a rise of 22%. The versatility of this card makes it a great inclusion in the deck.

Wild Slash CardKingdom $1.49 TCGPlayer $2.50
Atarka's Command CardKingdom $4.49 TCGPlayer $6.09
Ramunap Ruins CardKingdom $0.99 TCGPlayer $2.49

#2 Soulflayer $3.17 (+560%)

Soulflayer

The next card is also because of Pioneer, and being played in two types of decks of which this card is the namesake: Golgari Soulflayer and Jund Chromantiflayer. Soulflayer gets the most common abilities from all cards that were exiled through its Delve-cost.

The idea is to get creatures with abilities, like Chromanticore and Zetalpa, Primal Dawn, into the graveyard and then play a Soulflayer exiling these creatures and making sure it adopts their abilities. This results in a 4/4 creature with evasion that's really hard to deal with.

#3 Trade Routes $4.85 (+198%)

Trade Routes

Our first card today that isn't related to Pioneer. Let's discuss two other cards first before we get into this one. When Mystic Sanctuary was printed there was a new infinite combo in Commander together with Meloku the Clouded Mirror and Time Warp. You can take an extra turn, bounce the land with Meloku, get a 1/1 flyer, and replay the Mystic Sanctuary to put Time Warp back on top. This will give you infinite illusion tokens and, not to forget, infinite turns.

Now, here's also where Trade Routes comes into play, since you can use it to go infinite with it as well instead of Meloku. However, you will end up with infinite turns, but will not get the illusion tokens obviously. But especially in EDH it's good to have an extra combo enabler.

Keep in mind that this card was also printed in 8th Edition and 9th Edition which are considerably cheaper. However, the Masques version is the only print in the old frame, occasionally adding a premium to cards.

Meloku the Clouded Mirror CardKingdom $2.49 TCGPlayer $1.34
Trade Routes CardKingdom $3.99 TCGPlayer $4.85
Time Warp CardKingdom $19.99 TCGPlayer $14.69
Trade Routes CardKingdom $2.29 TCGPlayer $1.13

Mystic Sanctuary CardKingdom $0.79 TCGPlayer $0.50

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Finale of Promise $5.00

The Conspiracy version is even cheaper, but I personally love this old frame.
