Weekly Winners 2019 - 32

Brewing is making cards spike this week, and a returning guest double spikes! Just in time for FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight!

#1 Knucklebone Witch $6.99 (+463.71%)

Knucklebone Witch

Up until this week Knucklebone Witch has been a dollar rare. And it is by far the most interesting spike of the past few weeks. Printed in Lorwyn, Knucklebone Witch has been around since 2007. And now it has spiked, it seems that this is a typical case of an undervalued rare.

Its ability does not seem extremely powerful, and mostly interesting for limited play. But when you see it in action in the recent RB Goblins build in Modern, you will notice how it has a lot of synergy with many well-known Goblins. Skirk Prospector for instance. Or Mogg War Marshal and Sling-Gang Lieutenant. Sacrificing Goblins has a double benefit when you have Knucklebone Witch in play.

Knucklebone Witch's price started going up right after the first RB Goblins list did well on SCG Modern Classic in Philadelphia. On top of that, some players netted good results on MTGO with RB Goblins. Check out this last 5-0 list.

New tech in non-rotating formats always grabs the attention of players and speculators. Jeff Hoogland put some extra coals on the fire this week by streaming his experiences playing the deck.

We are also in (yet another) 'spoiler season' as the new to be printed cards for Commander 2019 roll in. One of those has synergy with Knucklebone Witch as well. Yesterday, Squee, Goblin Nabob was spoiled. Since you can get it back every turn, it makes a great candidate to repeatedly sacrifice and also +1/+1 your Knucklebone Witch. But to be fair, this spike has no connection with Commander. At least not yet. The reprinting of Squee, Goblin Nabob and the discovery of Knucklebone Witch for competitive Modern might inspire people to incorporate it into their EDH deck as well.

Squee, Goblin Nabob CardKingdom $3.99 TCGPlayer $4.89

#2 Talisman of Dominance $5.94 (+112.90%)

Talisman of Dominance

Talisman of Dominance is not much to look at on first glance. Why would you pay for an artifact that does exactly what a variety of nonbasic lands do for no cost at all? Well, the fact that it is not a land is one of the reasons it sees play in Mono U Tron modern decks. With 4-offs of all the Tron lands, the utility lands and basic islands, you risk mana flood. Talisman of Dominance allows you to get a black mana source without playing lands that come into play tapped. It provides black mana for Dismember - (sideboard), you can tap it right after you play it, so you can cast an Expedition Map with the mana. It feeds both Karns and it can be discarded when you cast Thirst for Knowledge if you have no need for it.

Mono Blue Tron is increasing in popularity and it is driving up the demand for the card. But on top of the card sees a lot of play in Commander too. It sees play in 15% of decks registered on EDHRec.com.

Archenemy: Nicol Bolas CardKingdom $2.29 TCGPlayer $5.94

#3 Ixidor, Reality Sculptor $14.75 (+113%)

Ixidor, Reality Sculptor

It does not happen often that a card qualifies for the Weekly Winners two weeks in a row. Ixidor, Reality Sculptor has seen a bigger price increase than Talisman of Dominance and could technically have been the #2 winner this week. Check out last week's article for a detailed explanation.

The reason for the double spike is simple: last week the full decklists for Commander 2019 were revealed. And guess what? Ixidor, Reality Sculptor is not in it. So no reprint for this very relevant card for EDH morph strategies. Check out the video by The Command Zone, and article on the Mothership.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

More from Peter:

Weekly Winners 2021 - 36

Just like last week, the Commander: Innistrad: Midnight Hunt spoilers are the main factor of influence on the markets this week. There are enough cards spoiled for the brewing to commence and we expect a lot more movement in the coming weeks!

Like every week, just in time for (digital) FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the (digital) town tonight!

Catalyst Stone Daybreak Ranger Oboro, Palace in the Clouds

Weekly Winners 2021 - 13

This week we saw a lot of interesting movement. Most of it caused by Strixhaven spoilers, but the old frame fetchlands spiked as well.

Deserted Temple Mox Tantalite Windswept Heath

Weekly Winners 2021 - 12

For the first time since the COVID pandemic hit, our interest page looks like normal for a change! Many (huge) spikes from different sets and eras. I choose to see this as an omen of better times ahead!

Chain of Smog Illumination Magma Sliver

Weekly Winners 2021 - 10

Somewhat of an odd week. Not really any spikes that has one really obvious or notable reason and of course still a lot of older cards moving up.

Selective Memory Pearl Medallion Zombie Master

Weekly Winners 2021 - 08

The most interesting week in a long, long time! Maybe I'm a but biased due to my love for Legacy, but this week that format is the biggest driving factor behind the three weekly winners.

A strange and eventful week in the world of finance. Where you'd expect tons of cards to spike due to new brews, we mainly see a new hausse of reserved list cards being bought out. And also non-reserved list cards that happen to be MTG classics.
