Premodern is increasingly making prices move. But since today is Lorwyn Eclipsed release, we'll also see spikes because of that.

Like every week, just in time for FNM, I'll tell you about the Magic: the Gathering cards that'll be the talk of the town tonight! Come discuss this week's price movements with us on Discord.

Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Saproling Burst $39.37 (+1,869%)

Premodern just got a major shakeup with the Parallax Tide ban, and players are hunting for the next S tier deck in the new meta. Saproling Burst from Nemesis has shot up as people look to rebuild their Replenish decks without their go-to land destruction combo. The enchantment creates Saproling tokens with power and toughness equal to the number of fade counters remaining, which shrinks with each activation but can still generate a massive board presence in a single turn.

The real home for Saproling Burst has always been the Pande-Burst combo deck. With Pandemonium on the battlefield, each Saproling you create deals damage equal to its power to any target. Crack all seven fade counters and you're looking at more than lethal damage. The combo works well with Replenish, where you can dump both pieces into the graveyard with cards like Careful Study, then bring them back in one go. Now that Tide Control and Stiflenought decks are losing their most oppressive sideboard card, there's room for combo-oriented Replenish builds to take the throne.

Both Saproling Burst and Pandemonium have seen a huge spike this week, and what doesn't help is the absense of supply. Premodern players generaly prefer to play cards in the old frame. But if budget is an issue, you can always play reprints. While Pandemonium has been reprinted in Timeshifted and The List, Saproling Burst has not seen a printing since its first. That all said, the current price seems way too high and I expect it to come down at some point.

Besides the cards mentioned above, this week we also see strong movement from Tsabo's Web which sees plenty of play in Premodern sideboards.

#2 Tegwyll, Duke of Splendor $12.99 (+687%)

A lot of players, including mysef, are excited for Lorwyn Eclipsed. As expected from a Lorwyn set, we've seen some new Faerie support pop up making Tegwyll, Duke of Splendor from Commander: Wilds of Eldraine shoot up. This Dimir commander with flying and deathtouch also comes with an anthem effect for your other Faeries, making it a must-include for typal strategies. But the death trigger is one of its bigger benefits. Whenever another Faerie dies, you draw a card, though you'll pay one life to do so.

Lorwyn Eclipsed officially releases today, bringing with it a wave of new Faerie support and resparking interest in the creature type. Tegwyll slots perfectly into these strategies as both a lord and a card advantage engine. The fact that it triggers on any Faerie death, it means you can build around sacrifice outlets or board wipes and come out ahead on cards.

What's particularly nice about Tegwyll is how it rewards you for playing the Faerie game plan naturally. Flash creatures, combat tricks, and evasive threats all benefit from the anthem, and when they inevitably trade or get removed, you're drawing into more action. With Lorwyn Eclipsed adding fresh tools to the archetype, players are scooping up copies.

#3 Agent Frank Horrigan $14.23 (+68%)

Seven mana gets you a lot in Commander, and Agent Frank Horrigan from Universes Beyond: Fallout is just another example. This super Mutant has been climbing fast as players try to upgrade their Blight Curse precons from Lorwyn Eclipsed. An 8/6 with trample that proliferates twice both on entry and each time it attacks is what -1/-1 counter strategies absolutely can abuse. The conditional indestructible when attacking is nice and makes sure you can relatively safely get these attacks, and thus profilerate triggers, in.

The surge in demand fits the Blight Curse theme. The deck spreads -1/-1 counters across the battlefield, and Frank Horrigan makes sure that you'll be able to kill even the stronger creatures. Two proliferate triggers can quickly spiral out of control. He's one of the few cards in Jund colors that offers this level of proliferate power, and that scarcity is reflected in how aggressively the price has been moving.

The card isn't without its drawbacks. At seven mana, you do have to make sure there are already counters to proliferate before Frank enters, otherwise he's mainly an expensive beater. Removal spells still answer him cleanly outside of combat (doesn't die to Doom Blade though), so you'll want protection or ways to get immediate value. But when he works, he really works, and that's enough to have sent copies flying off the shelves as Lorwyn Eclipsed players look to power up their new decks.
