Aside from the regular spikes, Masters 25 is being spoiled this week! Both have influence on the markets. The first effects of M25 reprints are visible, but not all cards have dropped in price yet.
Once again, right in time for FNM, I will now tell you what cards will be the talk of the town tonight!
#1 Sliver Queen $73.96 (+91.46%) ALL TIME HIGH
In a week dominated by iconic cards from Magic's history, it suits that the #1 gainer this week is none other than good old Sliver Queen. Stronghold is a set I hold dear, it was the first set that was released when I started playing. I even keep an unopened Stronghold booster in my collection as a memento. And what a set it was (and is).
Sliver Queen is accompanied by icons like Mox Diamond, Ensnaring Bridge, Volrath's Stronghold, Dream Halls and Grave Pact. And since Sliver Queen and Mox Diamond are on the reservered list, they could not be reprinted in M25.
Sliver Queen's spike was due to a buyout after quite some chatter on forums, reddit and podcasts. It is one of those cards that is regularly named as a card that should be more expensive. And one of those cards that people should have bought when they could. The reason is fairly straightforward:
- It is a iconic, flavorful card
- From an older set; small print run
- EDH-material
- On the reserved list
- Nice art
So overall: a nice card to have in your collection, and certainly playable in EDH.
Tireless Tracker was a great card in Standard and is now finding its way into Modern. It saw play in the Abzan Deck that finished second at the Grand Prix Lyon. But that is not all, the card is played in many recent Modern decks:
- Titan Shift (16 listings)
- Counters Company (12 listings)
- B/G Midrange (9 listings)
- Bant Company (8 listings)
- GR Ponza (7 listings)
- G/W Company (6 listings)
- Amulet Titan (5 listings)
- Kiki Evolution (5 listings)
Tireless Tracker even found its way into Legacy! It is sometimes played in Lands sideboards.
Yes, it is time again to start digging in your collection! Mwonvuli Acid-Moss spiked this week and now costs you $4 for a single copy. The cards sees play in both Pauper and Modern. Recent Ponza/Landdestruction decks in Modern play 3 to 4 copies of Mwonvuli Acid-Moss, flanked by other landdestructors like good old Stone Rain and Molten Rain. Too bad Winter's Grasp is not Modern legal. But Mwonvuli Acid-Moss is, and although it costs one more mana, it does let you search your library for an extra land card.
The spike this week is probably because of the run on Pauper staples, since that is now also a supported competitive format in paper magic. Combine that with play in Modern and you have got yourself a nice target for regular players and speculators.
Masters 25 Reprint Report
You cannot have missed it: spoilers for Masters 25 are in full swing, and what a sweet set is turned out to be. Sure, some cards might have been better as a rare, opposed to being a mythic. But who cares when there are so much goodies in there! And also: it will probably have a larger print run than Iconic sets, allowing smaller LGS's to get the product as well.
Since reprints notoriously drive down prices, I will now give you a report on the first effects of Masters 25 on card prices. I have created combined graphs, so you can examine the price drops and differences for yourself below.
