Weekly Winners 2021 - 43

The Innistrad: Crimson Vow spoilers have started and guess what? It's vampires! This week we don't see many vampires move up yet, but I expect this to happen the coming week. What we do see this week are cards from Modern decks moving, but everything considered it does seem to be a slow-ish week. A bit more concise than usual, I present you the winners!

Like every week, just in time for FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight!

Come discuss this week's price movements with us on Reddit.

#1 Brought Back $4.00 (+72%)

Brought Back

This rare card from M20 went up significantly, but still seems affordable at $4. So mind you that it went up quite a bit percentage wise, but when we look at absolute dollar value it's not too much. It's an instant for , and when played you get to return up to two permanents from your graveyard back to the battlefield that were put there from the battlefield this turn. They will come back tapped, but since it is an instant you could do this on your opponent's turn after (chump blocks) meaning you can immediately swing again with these creatures on your turn.

But why did it go up? The most logical reason I could find was that Channel Fireball featured a Modern Boros Brough Back deck. It bring a fun synergy here since you can play it the same turn you Evoked your Fury or Solitude for example. But you can also use Brought Back as ramp with your fetchlands. The deck also features copies of Showdown of the Skalds and Ranger-Captain of Eos that both sacrifice themselves, meaning you can bring them back!

It also sees a little bit of of commander play with commanders like Adeline, Resplendent Cathar.

#2 Spreading Seas $3.91 (+65%)

Spreading Seas

Spreading Seas is a common from Zendikar and actually sees quite some Modern play in both mainboards and sideboards. For you get to enchant a land, making it an Island and you get to draw a card in the process. Playing it can get your opponent off of certain colors, especially when they don't play themselves. But it can also hose utility lands. Yes, I am looking at you Urza's Saga. But also lands like (Bl)Inkmoth Nexus come to mind.

We see it appear in both Jeskai and Azorius control, but also in Reanimator and Azorius stoneblade. But we also see it (or used to see it) in Modern Merfolk, where not only it can give you the benefits discussed above, but by giving your opponent an Island you can safely swing with your Merfolk if you have a Lord of Atlantis on the battlefield giving all your Merfolk Islandwalk.

#3 Solitude $64.50 (+39%)

Solitude

We see this card everywhere! It's included in the Brought Back deck we discussed earlier, and also appears in the same deck the next winner we'll discuss. In Modern the card is played as well in Azorius blink, 5c Elementals, Azorius control, Jeskai control. But we also see it in Legacy in Death&Taxes. The card just keeps moving up and I hope we'll see reprints of this cycle soon.

#4 Ardent Plea $4.99 (+39%)

Ardent Plea

Another card that may have gone up because of a Channel Fireball deck by Andrea Mengucci. He plays with a Modern Four Color Yorion deck that takes a new approach to the Crashing Footfalls strategy. The decks seems to be originally created by d00mwake.

This may be the new deck in Modern to keep an eye on. It may not be better than Azorius control, but there's a good chance that it will be popular for the next few weeks, just because it's new and fun.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.
