Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Aura of Dominion $7.99 (+899%)

This 21-year old enchantment from Champions of Kamigawa has been making waves this week after players discovered a powerful infinite combo with the upcoming Counter Intelligence precon. The card lets you pay one mana and tap a creature to untap the enchanted creature, which might not sound like much until you realize what happens when you pair it with Kilo, Apogee Mind. What was sitting around thirty cents has jumped to over five dollars as players scramble to get their copies before the precon drops.

The combo works with either Pentad Prism or Crystalline Crawler, both of which are actually in the Counter Intelligence deck. You enchant Kilo, pay one mana and tap itself, targeting itself to untap. Now you get to proliferate and since you're proliferating, you put another charge counter on Pentad Prism. You can now pay mana from the Prism to do it again. Rinse and repeat for infinite proliferate triggers.

While that might not win the game on its own, throw in some creatures with counters or something like Magistrate's Scepter and things get out of hand quickly. It's interesting that every piece except Aura of Dominion got reprinted in the precon, making this feel like a natural upgrade path for anyone picking up the deck.

Aura of Dominion was only printed once. And as it's such a relatively old card, there's few copies around.

#2 Tiller Engine $38.99 (+237%)

We're not done yet with discussing precon spikes! Tiller Engine from Commander: Dominaria United shot up this week after the World Shaper precon got fully revealed. The card's been sitting around nine dollars for the past month, but jumped to almost $40 when players realized how well it works with the precon's strategy. When you're playing a bunch of lands that enter tapped, being able to untap them immediately is huge value, especially when you're trying to ramp into bigger threats.

The precon runs cards like Szarel, Genesis Shepherd to get lands back from your graveyard, and most of those lands are things like Evolving Wilds that makes lands enter tapped. Tiller Engine turns those into immediate mana, letting you chain together multiple spells in the same turn. It's basically an Amulet of Vigor-like effect, and anyone who's seen that card in Modern knows how powerful that effect can be. The fact that it only appeared in the Painbow precon means supply was not that high to begin with, so when demand spiked the price followed.

#3 Tombstone Stairwell $84.77 (+170%)

This Reserved List enchantment from Mirage has been going up as players realize how well it works with Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER from the Final Fantasy set. Tombstone Stairwell creates Zombie tokens equal to the number of creatures in all graveyards at each upkeep, then destroys them at the end of each turn. What makes this particularly spicy is that Sephiroth triggers whenever another creature dies, and with Tombstone Stairwell you're getting a massive flood of death triggers every single turn cycle.

The synergy gets even better when you consider that Sephiroth transforms after his ability resolves four times in a turn, and once he flips you get an emblem that continues triggering off creatures dying. With multiple opponents and full graveyards, Tombstone Stairwell can easily generate enough death triggers to transform Sephiroth immediately and then keep the life drain going every turn. The fact that it's on the Reserved List means supply is fixed, so when Final Fantasy players started looking for ways to maximize their new decks, this old enchantment became an obvious target.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past seven years. Many cards were even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.
