Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Final Fantasy Rundown

With the Final Fantasy sets officially releasing today, there are definitely some cards on the move. And while people can now get the cards in their hands and play with them, that doesn't mean we didn't know already what cards would be in the set. And players have already been buying the cards that they want for their deck or know which deck they want to build.

If you're a regular reader of the Weeky Winner series, you've probably noticed that the past few weeks have mostly been about Final Fantasy. The sets seems incredibly powerful, and since Final Fantasy has a huge fanbase, everyone is eager to play the cards.

But this last week has been a little slow finance wise. Players bought the cards they want and a lot has already spiked. And this week we mostly see cards recurring on the Interests that we've already discussed the past few articles. So our first "Winner" of the week is going to be a short rundown of these cards.

Barbara Wright $4.84 (+91%)

Discussed last week. Barbara is spiking because she gives Sagas the read ahead ability, and with powerful new Sagas like Summon: Bahamut players are scrambling to get their Saga support lined up.

Quicksilver Elemental $32.48 (+99%)

Discussed four weeks ago. Quicksilver Elemental went from bulk to $32 because it can copy Vivi Ornitier's mana ability and break the "once per turn" restriction to generate infinite mana.

Soulcatchers' Aerie $11.63 (+72%)

Mentioned two weeks ago when Keeper of the Nine Gales spiked, Soulcatchers' Aerie spiked because new chocobo cards are getting players excited about Bird typal decks, and an enchantment that can pump Birds works well in these decks.

Arwen, Mortal Queen $10.00 (+45%)

Discussed two weeks ago. Arwen, Mortal Queen has been climbing because Tidus, Yuna's Guardian can move around her keyword counters and use proliferate to copy her indestructible counter, creating a repeatable engine that turns her into a counter-generating machine.

Quicksilver Elemental
Soulcatchers' Aerie
Arwen, Mortal Queen

#2 Aberrant $3.69 (+38%)

Cards from Universes Beyond: Warhammer 40,000 tend to spike really well when a new synergy is found. Likely because a lot of these cards are bound to the Warhammer lore and are hard to reprint, and thus the supply will not quickly increase. And even though this Tyranid Mutant is just an uncommon, it went up.

It seems like Jenova, Ancient Calamity may be the reason for the card getting some love. Jenova turns creatures into Mutants and adds +1/+1 counters on them. Then whenever a Mutant dies on your turn, you get to draw cards equal to its power. And Aberrant already has it all. Mutant? Check! +1/+1 counters? Check! You can pump some mana into Aberrant and have a massive creature that nets you a lot of cards when it dies.

Funilly enough it seems like only the regular print of Aberrant has spiked, but the surge foil version can be bought for roughly the same price.

Not too long ago we saw another creature with ravenous from the Warhammer set spike. That was Tyrant Guard, which gives all creatures with counters on them hexproof and indestructible. It was one of the earlier cards to spike because of Tidus, Yuna's Guardian and Betor, Ancestor's Voice.

#3 Sage of Hours $13.70 (+37%)

"Take another turn" cards are always loved by players, and hated by their opponents. In the past ten years, however, this mythic from Journey into Nyx has fluctuated between $2 and $5. But no longer! Yuna, Grand Summoner was printed in Commander: Final Fantasy and has spiked this Human Wizard.

When Yuna adds mana to cast Sage of Hours, it enters immediately with two +1/+1 counters. More importantly, Yuna lets you relocate counters from dying creatures, and there's no better place to dump these counters than on a creature that turns five of them into an extra turn. The Counter Blitz precon generates plenty of counters to utilize this, making Sage of Hours a good upgrade to the deck.

Sage of Hours has never gotten a reprint since it's original from Journey into Nyx, and being a mythic there's definitely a somewhat limited supply. But a single reprint could bring the price down immediately.

Yuna, Grand Summoner

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past seven years. Many cards were even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Bruna, the Fading Light $2.70 - Moving up!

Bruna, the Fading Light has been identified by the MTGStocks Premium Penny Stocks feature as a card that has reached its bottom and is starting a consistent uptrend.

Deadpool, Trading Card $18.67 - Slowly moving down

Stormscale Scion $5.80 - Slowly moving down
