Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Arwen, Mortal Queen $5.04 (+93%)

Arwen, Mortal Queen from The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-earth has been climbing steadily. The reason won't surprise you, it's because of the upcoming Final Fantasy sets. And just like last week we'll have to talk about Tidus, Yuna's Guardian, who's the commander of the Counter Blitz precon deck.

Tidus, Yuna's Guardian

Tidus can move counters around each combat, and while that may not sound overwhelming with regular +1/+1 counters, it becomes a lot better with keyword counters. Arwen enters with an indestructible counter that can be exchanged for a lifelink counter and a +1/+1 counter. Suddenly, Tidus has multiple counters to play with, giving you a lot of versitility.

But that isn't the full story. Tidus also has proliferate, which can double any counter on a creature, including the indestructible counter. This would open up scenarios like: Arwen enters, getting her indestructible counter, you profilerate to copy it, and then exchange one of them for a +1/+1 and lifelink counter. Rinse and repeat, and you've got yourself an engine to create counters, and having Arwen's indestructible shield ability up.

And while we're on the subject of Universes Beyond creatures that work well with Tidus, let's also give a shout out to Danny Pink, who's been showing up on the Interests list as well.

#2 Keeper of the Nine Gales $5.93 (+184%)

I must be honest in that I don't think I've ever (actively) seen this card. This rare from Legions has never really be reprinted since the release in 2003, except for an inclusion on The List. And as you can imagine, this card wants to be played along other Birds. That's why it has, apparently, been a fairly popular inclusion in decks around popular Bird commanders like Kastral, the Windcrested or Kangee, Aerie Keeper.

Being able to bounce any permanent is a pretty strong, and pretty rare, ability on a Magic card, so it's no wonder the card works well in the Bird typal decks. And once again, the Final Fantasy sets are the reason for the spike. For the fans out there, the Final Fantasy lore includes the fictional bird species chocobo. Cards like Traveling Chocobo are very good inclusions into any Bird deck, and with new commanders caring about the creature type, we can expect people to start building with them.

When we glance over the Interests of last week we see more Birds appearing on there, like Falco Spara, Pactweaver and support like Soulcatchers' Aerie.

Kastral, the Windcrested
Choco, Seeker of Paradise
Hermes, Overseer of Elpis

#3 Tom Bombadil $5.01 (+92%)

More Universes Beyond spikes, and more Lord of the Rings. While the regular print of Tom Bombadil isn't moving that much, we do see more movement on the Showcase version and the Showcase Scrolls version. If there's anything that Tom Bombadil loves, it's Sagas. And in the Final Fantasy sets we do see several being printed.

As of writing we're counting 29 new Sagas to be released in both the Final Fantasy and its Commander set. Some cards are straight up Sagas, and we have several of them that start out as a different permanent but can be transformed (flipped) into a Saga. Sagas like Summon: Bahamut, Summon: Knights of Round, and Terra, Magical Adept seem to be strong and may likely find their way into Tom decks.

That said, it does feel like the rise in price of Tom Bombadil feels more like speculators getting some copies in rather than actual player demand. That may all very well change as we get closer to the release date of Final Fantasy, but for now I feel that may be the case.
