Set Valuation Compass

Recently we launched the brand new Premium feature called Set Valuation Compass, which can be found as a tab on most set pages. The Set Valuation Compass offers our users a powerful new tool for making data-driven decisions. Developed in collaboration with a member of the MTGStocks Discord community, this feature demonstrates how player insights drive innovation in the platform.

Set Valuation Compass

The tool proves especially valuable during set releases when card prices are most volatile and uncertain. Users can identify market inefficiencies through advanced metrics, including velocity tracking and rank analysis. By spotting cards selling quickly relative to their prices during the crucial early release window, collectors gain a significant advantage before the market stabilizes. This community-inspired feature gives premium subscribers the edge in navigating new set economics when timing matters most.

Consider becoming a Premium member and try this feature out. Not only will you get some awesome new features, but you'll also be supporting MTGStocks and keeping us afloat!

Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Unbanned Commander Cards

This week's list is going to be a little different than you're used to. The reason is because you probably don't need me to tell you what the biggest winners were the past week. If you've been paying a little attention to the unbanning of cards in the Commander format, you can see why these cards went up. So in this first "winner" we'll simply show you the price chart of the two weeks of these unbanned cards.

But as a little recap, the following cards have been unbanned in the format: Gifts Ungiven, Sway of the Stars, Braids, Cabal Minion, Coalition Victory, and Panoptic Mirror. And while unbanned they are tagged as "Game Changers."

When it comes to these cards coming off the banned list there are probably people for and against it. I don't play Commander to have a truly informed opinion on these unbannings, but I feel that for Braids it was time she got off the list. Sway of the Stars is a wild card. I still wouldn't like playing against the cards. Ten mana to reset the game is terrible and probably just pretty frowned upon by dragging out the game, but it's not particulary strong.

The largest spike comes from Panoptic Mirror, and that's not entirely unexpected. Darksteel was released in 2004. Relatively little packs were opened of this set, because of players taking a Magic hiatus for Affinity decks ruining most formats available at that time. And with Panoptic Mirror having no reprints, the supply is really low.

#2 Herd Heirloom $6.41 (+193%)

Have you herd about this latest spike? This mana rock from Tarkir: Dragonstorm has gone up, and reading the card now, I absolutely understand why. Not only does it produce mana as long as you want to cast a creature, but the ability to grant trample and get you cards when the creature deals combat damage to a player is insane.

Interestingly the card was preselling for between $10 and $12, but fell to under $2 during the official release date. Two-mana rocks exist in all shapes and forms. One of the more common ones is Mind Stone which can be used to cast a spell, but later in the game can draw you a card. But when you play green, chances are that you're playing a creature-heavy deck, making Herd Heirloom work just as well.

#3 Lost Monarch of Ifnir $9.28 (+124%)

This Zombie Noble from Commander: Aetherdrift went up this past week. It has afflict 3 and gives all your other Zombies the same ability. Afflict, a keyword introduced in Hour of Devastation, says that whenever a creature with this ability becomes blocked, defending player loses life equal to the afflict value. That seems pretty good to give your Zombies. And the Noble can give you some card advantage with its second ability.

Do you still remember Hashaton, Scarab's Fist? He was released way back! Like... two-and-a-half months ago, and we haven't mentioned him in the Weekly Winners for five weeks. So I can imagine you're not that familiar anymore. But Hashaton was the reason for a lot of spikes in the Zombie type. And it seems like players aren't done finding new cards around him yet.

But there's another reason for this card to move up. And that's to upgrade the Sultai Arisen precon from Commander: Tarkir: Dragonstorm or to build around Teval, the Balanced Scale, which can be found in this precon. The two creatures synergize pretty well.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past seven years. Many cards were even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Sundown Pass $4.89 - Moving up!

Sundown Pass has been identified by the MTGStocks Premium Penny Stocks feature as a card that has reached its bottom and is starting a consistent uptrend.

Master of Cruelties (Retro Frame) $3.28 - Moving up long term

Dryad of the Ilysian Grove $6.56 - Moving down
