The release date for Innistrad: Midnight Hunt is closing in, but it was already released on Magic Arena, meaning brewing for Standard and Historic can really start taking off. We see some price movement this week relating to the new set and due to commander banner changes. As you can imagine, with a new set releasing its really exciting to see what everyone comes up with and how that affects the finance side of the second hand market.

Like every week, just in time for FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight!

Come discuss this week's price movements with us on Reddit.

#1 Worldfire $23.00 (+1,444%)

Worldfire

Last Monday the quarterly update from the Commander Rules Committee was released, where we see some changes in what cards are banned in the commander format. This committee is not officially linked to Wizards of the Coast, but definitely is regarded as the authority over what goes rule-wise in the commander format. The committee decided to ban Golos, Tireless Pilgrim, which was met by a lot of people with surprise, but they also decided to unban Worldfire. And there we see the reason for the spike.

They felt that even though Worldfire is an insanely powerful card, it does need proper set up to pull it off and end up ahead of your opponents. If a playgroup feels the card is too powerful or too un-fun, it should be discussed in rule 0, to keep it out of games where it doesn't belong. That being said, after the announcement, everyone flocked to their favorite card store to purchase copies. I can imagine that everyone wanted to get at least a copy in case they ever want to play with it, but speculators probably also tried to hoard them for $1.50 and unload them as soon as possible.

In the end I expect this card to settle around $5, since I do not think its an auto include in red decks and while powerful it does indeed require some set up. Remember, you don't only nuke your opponent's hand, graveyard and board, but also your own. Remember that cards like Decree of Annihilation also exist, and while not the same as Worldfire has a similar effect. The same applies to weaker versions like Apocalypse and Obliterate.

#2 Spellbinder $14.99 (+464%)

Spellbinder

The Professor mentioned a combo in his video last week where he talks about commanders from Innistrad: Midnight Hunt and in particular about Tovolar, Dire Overlord. The combo consists of Spellbinder and Savage Beating which we also go up over 100% to $38.00 and could have been our #3 winner this week. But lets not discuss both pieces of the combo as separate winners and do them both at the same time.

The combo is straightforward: you cast Spellbinder, imprint Savage Beating on it, equip the Spellbinder to a creature and make sure it deals combat damage to a player. That way you play a copy of Savage Beating, meaning you get to attack again. Rinse and repeat! Spellbinder is not a new card and already saw some play in commander, but since the video was released people have been made aware of the combo. Especially in the werewolf tribal it feels like a good fit, but it's definitely not exclusive there.

#3 Curse of Vengeance $18.50 (+238%)

Curse of Vengeance

This curse is not the only one we see show up in our Interests this week. To be fair, the Curse of Misfortunes went up by more percentage wise (+332), but that one went from $0.75 to $3.24, so in absolute value it wasn't that interesting, but worthwhile to mention. Curses see some fringe Legacy and Commander play, but with the addition of several new curses in Innistrad: Midnight Hunt it has gotten some new attention.

But most of all, with the printing of Lynde, Cheerful Tormentor there is a new commander that can be used to build Grixis curses decks. Keep in mind that Lynde can only be found in set boosters and collector's boosters. But Curse of Misfortunes has also been mentioned in a recent Command Zone video, perhaps drawing more eyes on the enchantments and thus spiking interest. I think that Curse of Vengeance is definitely worth mentioning, is because it was only printed in Commander 2016 which is quite some years ago and still has yet to be reprinted where many other curses are more recent or have gotten reprints.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past 7 years. Many cards have been even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.
