Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Brallin, Skyshark Rider $7.98 (+141%)

The market has been slowing down this past week, and it shows, because our first winner is Brallin, Skyshark Rider. Brallin is a mythic from the Commander 2020 set and partners with Shabraz, the Skyshark. Yet this partner combination doesn't seem to be the reason for it going up, even tough Shabraz also has a small price uptick. If we read on beyond the Partner ability, we see that Brallin wants you to discard cards to grow and do damage.

Green Goblin, Nemesis (Borderless)

When we look at recent cards that may have impacted its price, we find Captain Howler, Sea Scourge from Aetherdrift. Captain Howler also wants to discard cards to become (or make another creatures) stronger and also provides card advantage. These two cards work perfectly well together in the same strategy. Yet I couldn't image that this was the only reason for Brallin to go up that much.

Not too long ago the Universes Beyond Spider-Man set was announced. One of the previewed cards is Green Goblin, Nemesis (Borderless). A look at its text reveals another discard-oriented ability. This new preview confirms that the self-discard theme may be a significant mechanical element in the upcoming Spider-Man set. With this pattern emerging, it's more likely that Brallin has caught the attention of the market. Wizards is pushing the self-discard theme first with Captain Howler in Aetherdrift and now continuing it with cards like Green Goblin in the upcoming Universes Beyond set.

Shabraz, the Skyshark

#2 Powder Keg $34.99 (+37%)

Powder Keg is an artifact from Urza's Destiny that's on the Reserved List, and thus has a low supply and won't be reprinted. This also means that only a little bit of popularity or attention can make the card go up in price pretty quickly. The cards sees play in two formats. First there's Legacy where it sometimes sees play in sideboards to deal with problematic artifacts. The card is mainly sideboarded in against decks like Painters or the Coveted Jewel combo.

But that isn't the main reason for the card to go up. That honor goes to Premodern where it's seeing more play in both mainboards and sideboards.  For example, it sees play in Stiflenought, Tide Control, and Mono Black Clerics decks. That said, it's noticable that we see more Premodern cards show up in our Interests and the Weekly Winners articles lately. This is definitely a format that's getting more popular and something you should keep an eye on.

#3 Vengevine $12.00 (+36%)

When we see Vengevine on the Interests lists it can only mean one thing: graveyard strategies are on the menu! Last week we talked a bit about the spike of Goblin Lore. Vengevine comes back from the graveyard whenever you've cast your second creature spell this turn. And since it has haste you immediately get to attack with a 4/3.

It sees play with a full playset in the Modern Hollow One decks. With the explosive starts this deck has, Vengevine fulfills an important piece in the strategy.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past seven years. Many cards were even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Test of Endurance $3.49 - Moving up!

Test of Endurance has been identified by the MTGStocks Premium Penny Stocks feature as a card that has reached its bottom and is starting a consistent uptrend.

Kozilek, the Broken Reality $6.49 - Slowly moving down

Vial Smasher the Fierce $6.39 - Moving down

Not unsurpsingly Lorwyn Eclipsed is making the market move. And just like last week it mainly seems to come from the precons which seems to be very popular.
