Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Stock Up $4.20 (+950%)

This uncommon from Aetherdrift was bulk when the set released, but is now jumping. Being a bigger version of Anticipate didn't really raise anyone's eyesbrows. For three mana you get to pick two cards out of the top five of your library. Last weekend, at Magic Fest Chicago, was the Pro Tour Aetherdrift. And while Gruul Mice and Esper Pixie decks took a big chunk of the metagame, it was a Domain Overlords deck, piloted by Matt Nass, that took the win. And he played... a single copy of Stock Up in his sideboard.

That seems pretty meager for a spike to happen, but it's helping for the visibility. Stock Up also sees play in other formats than Standard. It's being included in Modern Grinding Station decks, Legacy Show and Tell, and even found its way into Vintage. Being able to be pitched as a blue spell to Force of Will or Force of Negation definitely is good, but just having this card selection and getting three cards in the process is more powerful than people originally thought. Also keep in mind that it works well in formats where Orcish Bowmasters is legal, since you're technically not drawing cards.

We'd have to wait and see whether this card will hold up in the constructed formats, but since a lot of people tried to get their copies in, supply dried up quickly. But since it's an uncommon in a set that's still being opened more copies will most likely come on the market soon. There are probably a bunch of copies out there that people didn't list on marketplaces because the card barely held any value, but may very well be listed soon.

#2 Dropkick Bomber $19.85 (+191%)

This is a pretty strange spike. Dropkick Bomber sees a little bit of play in Standard Goblin decks alongside Howlsquad Heavy, but isn't really putting up any numbers. It has however appeared with a single copy in one of the Pro Tour Aetherdrift decks that managed to play Day Two.

The card sees modest play across multiple formats though. Its appearing in Standard Goblins, Duel Commander decks with Muxus, Goblin Grandee, and occasionally in Legacy Goblins lists still recovering from the _____ Goblin (aka Name Sticker Goblin) ban.

There is something we have to realize about this card though. It has only two prints: Foundations and Foundations Jumpstart. But that still doesn't tell the full story since it didn't really appear in a regular fashion in Foundations as it can only be found in the Beginner Box, making the card have a really low supply compared to other cards appearing in Foundations. So even a little popularity may make people want to get their copies in and drive the price up.

#3 Goblin Lore $13.49 (+309%)

Look what we have here, an old friend making a comeback! Goblin Lore made a huge spike, and this isn't the first time it's done so. Back in 2018 it spiked even higher to about $30, and funnily enough the reason for that spike back then is very relatable to the spike now. It's spiking whenever RB Hollow One decks are becoming relevant in Modern.

Of course there's a reason for this deck to become popular again. This time it's the newly printed Aetherdrift Shark Pirate Marauding Mako that grows with each card you discard. Just imagine being able to play that card on turn one, followed by a turn two Goblin Lore. You now have a 4/4 that's ready to attack, and on top of that you can potentially play a free Hollow One. This combined with the fairly recent unbanning of Faithless Looting in Modern has given the deck the boost it needed to become part of the metagame again.

As mentioned earlier, Goblin Lore's previous spike was in 2018, when we discussed it three weeks in a row. Back then SaffronOlive came up with a budget brew which was later refined by Ken Yukihiro into a Pro Tour Top 8 finish. What I love about this card shooting up is how the drawback of discarding three cards at random is transformed into a powerful enabler.

#4 Putrid Imp $5.34 (+79%)

I've mentioned plenty of times by now that I like playing Reanimator strategies in Legacy. In fact, before I started playing Legacy, I used to play a more casual Reanimator deck that of course played Putrid Imp to get the fatties into the bin. I bought the Imps in 2011 and I actually found the order e-mail and I got four of them for €1 each. Looking back, that was a pretty terrible buy value-wise since it has only gone down since and even was around $0.27 at some point. It was printed in Torment as common in 2002 and hasn't received a real reprint since.

But now it's moving up quickly. And it's because of the Eternal Might precon, which we've touched upon multiple times already in the past few weeks. This precon features Hashaton, Scarab's Fist and players quickly identified the Imp as a good one-mana discard engine that enables Hashaton's copy ability as early as turn two. Since it was printed in Torment and only recieved a reprint in Premium Deck Series: Graveborn there's a fairly limited supply for this card.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past seven years. Many cards were even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Zimone, Paradox Sculptor $3.00 - Moving up!

Zimone, Paradox Sculptor has been identified by the MTGStocks Premium Penny Stocks feature as a card that has reached its bottom and is starting a consistent uptrend.

Academy Ruins $5.42 - Slowly moving down
