Commander is driving prices, and not just the cards people can play, but also the ones people can't play (yet)!

Like every week, just in time for FNM, I'll tell you about the Magic: the Gathering cards that'll be the talk of the town tonight! Come discuss this week's price movements with us on Discord.

Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Electrosiphon $5.00 (+762%)

That's quite the rise. But beware that percentages can be deceiving sometimes, since that card was only about $0.50 before the spike. That said, we can't deny the spike here, so lets dive into our first Winner. Electrosiphon is a rare instant from Universes Beyond: Fallout that can target a spell and get you, in the best case scenario, a bunch of Energy counters.

The most logical explanation would be that it had something to do with the Universes Beyond: Final Fantasy that's currently being previewed, but there are (at time of writing) no cards that mention Energy counters. If we take a step back however, in Aetherdrift, we do see cards with Energy counters. Pia Nalaar, Chief Mechanic (Borderless) and Saheeli, Radiant Creator (Borderless) both care about Energy counters. Having a counterspell that can protect you from something hitting the board and generate Energy in the process is a welcome addition to either of those commanders. Both of these cards appear in the Living Energy precon.

Seems like this card was just a sleeper for a little while until it was noticed to be a great upgrade to the deck.

#2 Hullbreacher $10.73 (+179%)

This spike seems to be a continuation from what we discussed last week. Back then Wizards of the Coast unveiled their "Commander Brackets," a new beta matchmaking system for Commander that divides decks into five distinct power brackets and introduces a 40-card Game Changers list.

There was a lot of information in the accompying article, but what stuck out for a lot of readers was that the word "unban" appeared eight times in it. Last week we discussed the notorious three cards that entered the ban list last only a few month ago when people were hoping for them to be unbanned again.

Since then people seem to have moved on from cards like Dockside Extortionist and have set their crosshairs for other cards on the banned list, one of them being Hullbreacher. While Hullbreacher may not seem that impressive, in multiplayer it can net you a lot of mana. You have to realize that it enables some insane combo's if you can force your opponents to draw cards. When playing a Wheel of Fortune (or similar effect) you would get 21 Treasures plus a reloaded hand if you're playing in a four-player pod. Yet people speculate that this card may come off the banned list.

And while we're on the subject, some people have apparently put more of the banned cards on their shopping list. Primeval Titan can also be found on this week's Interests.

#3 Currency Converter $18.70 (+62%)

This artifact could be bought for around $2 at its low point in October 2023, but has been climbing since then and shooting to new heights. For just you get an engine online that lets you loot a card and potentially turn these cards into value later in the game. Keep in mind that you don't have to discard a card to Currency Converter's ability to exile it.

But now when we read about exiling cards, one particular God immediately springs to mind. Ketramose, the New Dawn is an insanely popular Commander at the moment and people are building around it. Currency Converter is a great addition to any Commander deck that cares about this strategy. Ketramose is also really popular at the moment in Modern in Orzhov Blink decks.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past seven years. Many cards were even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Loot, Exuberant Explorer $3.99 - Moving up!

Loot, Exuberant Explorer has been identified by the MTGStocks Premium Penny Stocks feature as a card that has reached its bottom and is starting a consistent uptrend.

Elder Gargaroth $4.04 - Moving down

Omniscience $4.25 - Stabilizing
