Legacy and Modern are shaking up the Lhurgoyf stocks. And Duskmourn is also making sure the prices are moving.

Like every week, just in time for FNM, I'll tell you about the Magic: the Gathering cards that'll be the talk of the town tonight! Come discuss this week's price movements with us on Discord.

Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Pyrogoyf $9.68 (+908%)

Who remembers Tarmogoyf? You know, the one that used to carry a pricetag of $200. Back then it was unthinkable that this card would ever disappear from Modern and Legacy since they dominated those formats for some time. Yet Tarmogoyf has been power-crept out of popularity and now the cheapest copy is around $10. It took some time before the creature type was explored a little bit more, though. While we received two new Lhurgoyfs in Modern Horizons 2, those weren't really notable. However, we also received several new ones in Modern Horizons 3.

Modern Horizons 3 had a Lhurgoyf theme, particularly in the Graveyard Overdrive Commander precon, which gave us new cards like Pyrogoyf, Barrowgoyf, and Tarmogoyf Nest, making the creature type more viable in Commander. Nethergoyf was the first "breakout" goyf that found its way into both Modern and Legacy. Barrowgoyf is on an uptrend in price and sees play in several Legacy decks, going from around $5 to $12, since the banning of Grief and where Psychic Frog is becoming more and more important.

We now also see Pyrogoyf moving up, and it's once again because of Legacy, where it's found its way into mono-red Initiative decks. While it's four mana to cast, it's basically a red Tarmogoyf, plus it deals damage equal to its power to any target whenever it or another Lhurgoyf enters.

#2 Starfield of Nyx $13.62 (+266%)

Last week we talked about Penance, an enchantment that can put cards back on top of your library. It went up because of Aminatou, Veil Piercer, the front-facing commander of one of the Duskmourn precons. Aminatou gives your enchantments the Miracle ability. If you're unsure about what this ability is, check out last week's article where we talk about that ability a little more. What we want to focus on now is the "enchantments" part. Because in a deck that cares about enchantments, we want to play Starfield of Nyx.

Every upkeep you get to return an enchantment from your graveyard to the battlefield, and it will turn all your enchantments into creatures if you have at least five of them. This is such a strong card for many reasons in these decks and can win you the game pretty quickly if unanswered. With it only having only a print in Magic Origins and Commander Masters, where they're both at mythic rarity, the supply is rather low. And even while it dropped to $2, which was crazy cheap to begin with in my opinion, it's now moving up quickly to being a $8 card.

Besides Aminatou, another card from that precon is driving up the price. The Master of Keys is also a new commander that cares about enchantments, and it has something in common with Starfield of Nyx: it also cares about having enchantments in the graveyard.

When we inspect the interests a bit more, we also see Second Chance on there, which is a Reserved List card. This card also seems to be going up because of Aminatou, but more so because of The Master of Keys since it can potentially be recurred. When combined with, for example, Necrodominance you can make sure to stay below the five life to get extra turns. That being said, it may be a little bit too much of a stretch to pull this off, but Reserved List cards don't need a lot to get people to buy them and move the needle.

#3 Echoing Assault $6.27 (+168%)

Yet another enchantment moving up, but this time we can't blame Aminatou or The Master of Keys since red is not in their color identity. As you can expect from a Bloomburrow card, there's a cute fuzzy creature depicted in the art. Echoing Assault gives your creatures menace for five mana. It also gives you 1/1 copies of your attacking creatures that you have to sacrifice at the next end step.

Echoing Assault can be found in the Family Matters precon which has Zinnia, Valley's Voice as front-facing commander. As you would expect, there's some synergy between these cards, since they both care about creatures. But people also seem to want to have the card as an upgrade to the Animated Army precon that has Bello, Bard of the Brambles as commander. But since Echoing Assault works well in any creature deck that can support it there are plenty of other commanders that want to play it.

And while there are plenty of reasons why Echoing Assault is a good (or at least pretty decent) card, it took a card from Duskmourn: House of Horror to get it noticed. The Jolly Balloon Man was previewed recently and has a very similar ability: making 1/1 copies of a creature that you have to sacrifice.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past seven years. Many cards were even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Sowing Mycospawn $3.42 - Moving up!

Sowing Mycospawn has been identified by the MTGStocks Premium Penny Stocks feature as a card that has reached its bottom and is starting a consistent uptrend.

Dark Confidant (Retro Frame) $5.06 - Moving down
