Onto the Weekly Winners!

#1 Scavenger's Talent $6.13 (+513%)

Last week in Weekly Winners we talked about Caretaker's Talent's spike and also used that opportunity to mention Fortune Teller's Talent's price increase. It seems like the Talents from Commander: Bloomburrow are doing pretty well and were all much better than anticipated. This week we see Scavenger's Talent moving up quickly. There seem to be multiple reasons for this card to get more attention. One of these is that it's showing up in Pioneer Familiar Eater decks.

These decks want to put the cat into the oven. The deck mainly focusses around the Cauldron Familiar and Ygra, Eater of All combo. With Ygra and one Familiar on the battle, and another Familiar in the graveyard, each Cauldron Familiar can be sacrificed to the other infinite times killing the opponent. And while Scavenger's Talent is not necessary to pull off the combo, it does help with mill triggers targeting yourself to find the pieces needed. Since it also generates extra Food tokens, you can use the third level of the Talent to sacrifice some of them and get combo pieces back.

I've also seen a Standard mono-black mill deck that uses the Talent to mill out your opponent with Pitiless Carnage, but it more seems like a brew than an actual Tier 1 deck. That being said, the versatility of the card will also make sure it'll find a home in plenty of Commander decks. First obviously around commanders from Bloomburrow, but I have no doubt people will also put it in plenty of other decks as supply starts to pick up, since it works well in Mill, Combo, Reanimator, and Food decks.

And just like last week, let's also mention another Talent that's moving up: Gourmand's Talent is the green Talent that's also seeing a price increase.

Another interesting thing to note is that the supply of these Talent cards is relatively low, since none of them come with special treatments like Showcase or Borderless variants.

#2 Omnibian $12.86 (+504%)

Ribbit... Ribbit... Omnibian is a rare Frog originally printed in Dissension which was released in 2006, meaning that this Frog is 18 years old. And while it was reprinted in the Ravnica Allegiance: Guild Kits, I doubt this has added a lot of supply to the existing copies. For four mana you get to play a 3/3 Frog that can turn other creatures into 3/3 Frog until end of turn.

That doesn't sound like a particular good ability to me when I read the card. A few years back this card was priced as bulk but started moving up around November 2021 to about a dollar, and slowly moved towards two dollars. The reason for that uptrend seems to be the printing of Grolnok, the Omnivore in Innistrad: Crimson Vow. Grolnok was only the second legendary Frog ever printed, but the first to care about Frogs, thus piquing interest in the creature type for the first time. The first legendary Frog was The Gitrog Monster, which has no interest in the creature type.

Clement, the Worrywort (Borderless) (Raised Foil)

The reason for the spike this week is because of Bloomburrow. In this set we find new support for Frogs, among which are Clement, the Worrywort and Glarb, Calamity's Augur. This renewed support for the type has led people to flock to get other cards that fit the genre and Omnibian, is a niche card that fits the bill. Cards from old sets like this tend to be in limited supply, and easily go up whenever people try to get their copies in.

#3 Zoraline, Cosmos Caller $3.25 (+144%)

Zoraline will be a popular commander whenever someone wants to build a deck around Bats. Costing only three mana, or five if you immediately want to use its reanimate ability, it will provide you with a 3/3 vigilant flyer. Every time it attacks, you can also get something back from your graveyard with mana value three or less.

Orzhov Midrange by LucaAshok

The Bat is doing pretty well in Standard Orzhov Midrange decks. Having a 3/3 flyer that can always be also used as a blocker is pretty good. However, the format is still solving the metagame, and we're not sure whether this archetype is here to stay. But if it puts up more results, we can see this card maintain this price or go even higher.

In Commander I expect people to start building Bat decks with this card as commander, but it can also do well in other decks. Non-Bat commanders that come to mind are Amalia Benavides Aguirre and Oloro, Ageless Ascetic.

Cheap Pickups

Please note: for our 'record low' we consider the price of the card over the past seven years. Many cards were even cheaper (a) decade(s) ago. Also note: some cards are still going down, and might be even cheaper pickups next week.

Crackle with Power $2.75 - Moving up!

Crackle with Power has been identified by the MTGStocks Premium Penny Stocks feature as a card that has reached its bottom and is starting a consistent uptrend.

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds $6.04 - Moving down

Goldspan Dragon $10.00 - Moving down
