Weekly Winners (39)

by Peter

Since today is my birthday and my SO prepared a whole programme of surprises, and the fact that I am attending a wedding of good friends today, I only have the time for a short version of the Weekly Winners this week. Soonce again, I present you the cards that will be the talk of the town tonight.

#1 Cursecatcher +20.3% ($15.66)

Cursecatcher

Cursecatcher is now a $15+ card. That is crazy. Yes, it is a good card that slows down many decks in both Modern and Legacy, but I would have never guessed this card would even break the $10 limit. That happened last July. But the price increase was so gradual that we did not see it pop up in our interests until last week.

Last tuesday the gradual price increase was over when speculators jumped on the hype train. The card was bought out, and at this time in low stock everywhere.

Interesting detail: Cursecatcher's foil price has stayed stable around $25 up until now.

 #2 Knight of the Reliquary +79,5% ($13.80)

Knight of the Reliquary

Knight of the Reliquary was last week's winner, and should have been this week's number #1, if you only take the price increase into account. Same story this week. The card combos with Retreat to Coralhelm from Battle for Zendikar. And many people thought, in reaction to last week's article, that I should have been more optimistic about the power of this combo. You guys are probably right. The price increase on Knight of the Reliquary seems to correspond with that optimism.

#3 Lantern of Insight +38.3% ($6.64)

Lantern of Insight

Lantern of Insight is again the #3, just like last week. It jumped another 38% in price. But it still is not at its all time high. On June 19th, the card price was $6.72.

Zendikar Expedition

Today, the first prices for Zendikar Expedition became available. This gives us the first insights on how the larger vendors, who expect to open one of each apparently, value these special full art foil lands. The top three is as follows: we see Scalding Tarn at a whopping $440, followed by Polluted Delta at $372 and Flooded Strand at $360. Nothing too unexpected there, since they're all blue fetchlands.

The most expensive shockland is, shockingly enough (huehue), Steam Vents at $187.

I don't know where I see these prices going. I'm assuming, since these are presale prices, that they will come down as product is being opened, but it's hard to say at this point.

More from Peter:

Weekly Winners 2021 - 36

Just like last week, the Commander: Innistrad: Midnight Hunt spoilers are the main factor of influence on the markets this week. There are enough cards spoiled for the brewing to commence and we expect a lot more movement in the coming weeks!

Like every week, just in time for (digital) FNM, I'll now tell you about the cards that will be the talk of the (digital) town tonight!

Catalyst Stone Daybreak Ranger Oboro, Palace in the Clouds

Weekly Winners 2021 - 13

This week we saw a lot of interesting movement. Most of it caused by Strixhaven spoilers, but the old frame fetchlands spiked as well.

Deserted Temple Mox Tantalite Windswept Heath

For the first time since the COVID pandemic hit, our interest page looks like normal for a change! Many (huge) spikes from different sets and eras. I choose to see this as an omen of better times ahead!

Chain of Smog Illumination Magma Sliver

Weekly Winners 2021 - 10

Somewhat of an odd week. Not really any spikes that has one really obvious or notable reason and of course still a lot of older cards moving up.

Selective Memory Pearl Medallion Zombie Master

Weekly Winners 2021 - 08

The most interesting week in a long, long time! Maybe I'm a but biased due to my love for Legacy, but this week that format is the biggest driving factor behind the three weekly winners.

Ethereal Forager Stifle Allosaurus Shepherd

Weekly Winners 2021 - 07

An interesting week, again driven by old card speculation and EDH. But we also have a special edition of Cheap Pickups, with a new way to look at cards that are (still) cheap pickups, but might go up later.

Shivan Dragon Sapphire Medallion Elvish Champion

Weekly Winners 2021 - 05

A strange and eventful week in the world of finance. Where you'd expect tons of cards to spike due to new brews, we mainly see a new hausse of reserved list cards being bought out. And also non-reserved list cards that happen to be MTG classics.
