Weekly Winners (47)

Another slow week in the world of MTG Finance. But also another week with 3 weekly winners. And all three are up because of Legacy. Again, in time for FNM, I'll tell you what cards will be the talk of the town tonight.

#1 Titania, Protector of Argoth +236.7% ($8.25)

Titania, Protector of Argoth

Titania, Protector of Argoth spiked because of a speculator buyout this week. Expect the card to lose value as traders and players buylist  the copies they have. The main reason for the enthusiasm for Titania, Protector of Argoth is a MTGO daily deck that won 4-0. Lejay built this deck and it featured a oneoff Titania, Protector of Argoth

Since  Titania, Protector of Argoth is a legendary creature, people are now also experimenting with it in EDH. It's ability can be abused, putting 5/3 dudes onto the battlefield for each land put in the graveyard is pretty neat. Fetching a land, and getting a free 5/3 is nice. And sacrificing the land after to Zuran Orb to get another 5/3 is even nicer. And don't forget about Knight of the Reliquary and Crucible of Worlds.

#2 Containment Priest +41.9% ($21.97)

Containment Priest

Containment Priest is one of the best cards from C14, especially for Legacy. Wizards seems to keep printing white hatebears, maybe in an attempt to (subtly) change the metagame to favor more midrange, control and aggro decks. The biggest losers are Reanimator, Dredge and Sneak & Show. A resolved Containment Priest  means these decks can't sneak in their powerful creatures unless they actually cast them. And since casting those creatures is (99%) impossible they will have to deal with it. Also, Containment Priest is good against Aether Vial

Please note that in Legacy, Containment Priest is a sideboard card that is being played 2 or 3 times. This will affect the price of the card. And it will have to prove itself over a longer period of time. Please remember Spirit of the Labyrinth, a similar card. It has the potential to slow down any deck that uses brainstorm, ponder or preordain. But in the end, the card just didn't see that much play. Even while it's good tech against any handsculpting deck like Reanimator, Sneak & Show, Storm Combo, Miracles and even decks like UR Delver and RUG Delver.

#3 Moggcatcher +41.9% ($4.03)

Moggcatcher

Believe it or not, Moggcatcher is also up because of Legacy. This deck has made it into a SCG Top-8, and that boosts interest in the card and therefore the price is up also.

Moggcatcher is fairly unique, especially outside Masques block. I still have my rebel deck, the first deck I played a tournament with (Masques Block constructed). The deck is now 15 years old, and I still carry it with me to every magic night I visit. And why? Because of the same ability that Moggcatcher has. A recurring tutor for any creature is pretty powerful and fun. It lets you find any creature and helps you find exactly what you need.

Moggcatcher's Mono Red deck might start te blossom. The deck mentioned above was not the only time it netted a good result. Over the past months other lists had good results as well. The deck is good, fast and aggressive. But also pretty expensive to put together, even when you own your manabase. Not many players own Imperial Recruiter, a $280 or $170 dollar card, depending on the printing. A card with a low print run and a card that does not see a lot of play. I don't expect a lot of people buying into that, just because of this one top finish.

But, not all lists use Imperial Recruiter, and extremely aggressive decks might prove to be very good in the current metagame. With or without Imperial Recruiter, the deck will need to prove itself before it can really settle into the metagame.

The most interesting week in a long, long time! Maybe I'm a but biased due to my love for Legacy, but this week that format is the biggest driving factor behind the three weekly winners.
