Weekly Winners (42)

Another interesting week in the world of finance! After and during the Pro Tour some cards have seen incredible spikes, and overall a lot of risers!

#1 Pearl Lake Ancient +323.2% ($4.19)

Pearl Lake Ancient

Sometimes there is a card, and I'm talking about Pearl Lake Ancient here, that is totally undervalued during the spoiler season. Pearl Lake Ancient is not the typical high value mythic. With a CMC of 7 this card is high costed, it has no evasion, can be blocked easily (by little tokens for instance).

But still, Pearl Lake Ancient is the big winner of the Pro Tour, and it spiked from $0.99 to $4.19 in just 7 days. It's a sideboard piece in the UBx standard decks we've seen on the Pro Tour. But that is not the only reason this guy spiked. The first Pro Tour in a new Standard is always the speculators' prime time. And when Pearl Lake Ancient started to prove its value, the card was bought out very, very fast.

As you can see, the price dropped fairly quickly after its initial price spike, which is normal after speculators buy out copies of a card. The $6 price was not realistic, and it's even questionable if it will hold it's $4+ value.

#2 Perilous Vault +194.6% ($9.25)

Perilous Vault

Perilous Vault is another Pro Tour winner! Also from UBx. But that's not the only thing. Perilous Vault is a sweet card for EDH and casual as well. This guy fits in almost any deck that wants to sweep the board. Maybe alongside or instead of Oblivion Stone.

So it's not only a pickup for people that want to play UB Control in Standard, but also for any casual player that wants to gets their hands on cheap copies. It's a solid card. It's a mythic. Expect it to settle a little lower than the current price.

#3 Rakshasa Deathdealer +144.6% ($4.94)

Rakshasa Deathdealer

Rakshasa Deathdealer is an already widely played card. It's a piece in Abzan and Sultai Standard decks. What makes this card good is it's a turn 2 drop that is still lategame relevant. Regeneration and pumping is a great combination!  Combine this dude with Fleecemane Lion and Siege Rhino and you have quite some aggressiveness. Cheap beasts in a mana-intensive format.

Check out the latest decks that run Rakshasa Deathdealer.

Loser of the week:  Surrak Dragonclaw -13.4%  ($5.45)

Surrak Dragonclaw

Surrak Dragonclaw just keeps going down, day after day. This baby was week 40's weekly loser, and now it's back again. It does see play in Standard, but not enough to inspire people to buy their own playsets. It does seem Surrak Dragonclaw's price is bottoming out around the $5. And keep in mind, that's still more than Pearl Lake Ancient and Rakshasa Deathdealer

Cheap pickup of the week: Cursed Scroll  ($6.26) ALL TIME LOW

Cursed Scroll

Who remembers the 1998 Magic World Championships? Well I do! I don't know how many times I've played with Ben Rubin's Sligh deck against my friend's Brian Selden Survival of the Fittest deck. All gold bordered of course. And Cursed Scroll was one of my favorites! And now you can get them cheap.

For old times sake, I would like to share this MTG Worlds 1998 promotional video (potato quality), it's a look into the pre-internet store world, without webcasts, card sleeves and where your only source of price information was that old Duelist your neighbor kid had lying around. (Are those unsleeved Wastelands?)

Somewhat of an odd week. Not really any spikes that has one really obvious or notable reason and of course still a lot of older cards moving up.

The most interesting week in a long, long time! Maybe I'm a but biased due to my love for Legacy, but this week that format is the biggest driving factor behind the three weekly winners.
