Weekly Winners Special: 2018 top 100 winners
The end of the year is near! Hope that you all had an amazing Christmas with your loved ones and you're now slowly starting to consider to take it easy for the next few weeks to shake off that little extra bit of weight you put on from the amazing meals. Last week Peter already shared with you a list of the top 100 losers of 2018. As is tradition, I will show you another list. Today, I will present you with the list of top 100 winners.
Calculation method
The most important task in calculating these kinds of lists is the method you use to select, filter, include and exclude cards. Maybe you are missing some cards, or maybe you're surprised about the results. To avoid any confusion I will explain how we have calculated this list. We did it the same as last week, but to recap we will go over this again.
First of all, we excluded all the oldest sets with big prices and little trade. Alpha, Beta, Unlimited, the Dark were excluded from our list. The second important thing to note is that we used the prices of all cards in 2018 on the day of the release of the set. Prerelease prices are known to be inaccurate and some were even listed as $99.99 (or some other ridiculous) price at first. When we take the actual release date prices tend to be more accurate but still a tad high most of the time.
Also note that our 'jan 1st' column is either the price of the card on 01-01-2018, or the price of the card on the day of the release of the set, if that was a date later than 01-01-2018.
Response from last week
Last week when we posted the article on Reddit, and we got some feedback about how the list of losers felt somewhat cluttered to some people. This is due to many cards being in there, for example, that lost a lot of value because they rotated out of Standard. I also read people were interested in a list based on dollar value rather than percentage.
Since the year technically isn't over yet, I've decided to open up a poll where you can vote on which lists you would also like to see. I will take the 2 or 3 top winners and show both winners and losers. I have not done test runs on the poll options, so I may have to make adjustments as I go along. I will write the article on December 31st, so you have until I start writing to vote!
