Interests of 2016: Top lists

31 Dec
by Arjen

I remember that in 2014 I started doing this list depicting the 250 top interests of the year after I received some requests to do something like this. For some reason, in 2015, I failed to provide such a list, but this year, I figured I should do it again (and also... I remembered to do it). I must admit, that I prepared these numbers one day too early. Meaning that if anything huge happens on December 31st, it's not accounted for, so bare with me.

Before I present you with the numbers, and the (way too large) tables, I will tell a little bit about how this data was deducted. I first checked, for every card, the price on January 1st 2016. If for some reason this price did not exist (for example cards that simply weren't printed yet), I took the first known price. So, if for example, the first known price is in September, I used that one. Then I looked at the price of December 30th. If this price did not exist, I took the last price known in December. If that price is below $2.00, the card is too cheap to even consider.

From these differences, I created the following top 250 tables. However, I left out all sets that are excluded from the daily interests lists by default. Also I manually removed a few outliers, like basic lands.

The tables with the top risers and decliners of 2016 can be found here.

Enjoy!

There's a lot going on around Modern, and each of our winners at least mention the format. But there are two winners that seem to be directly linked to it.

Previews for Murders at Karlov Manor are in full swing, and we see more cards moving in price because of it. But there's also enough to talk about in constructed formats.

Weekly Winners 2024 - 03

The first spike caused by Murders at Karlov Manor has reached the Interests, especially some foil cards, but there are also other cards to talk about.
